CHEROKEE - A record-setting performance in the boys' Shuttle Hurdle relay and three other first place finishes gave Emmetsburg's E-Hawks a fifth place finish overall at Monday's Lakes Conference Track Meet.
The E-Hawk Shuttle, with Clayton Henderson, Brandon Elbert, Allen Jensen and Cody Henderson, pulled away from their competitors to set a new Conference record with a time of :59.54 to win the event and also earn All Conference honors.
Emmetsburg's 4x100 meter relay, comprised of Aaron Bird, Cody Henderson, Andrew Wellik and Allen Jensen, came into the final 100 meters running third and ended up with a fantastic anchor from Jensen to win the event with a :45.12, which was also good for All Conference recognition.

Andrew Wellik earned All Conference honors by winning the 100 meter dash in a time of :11.28 and fellow senior Cody Henderson won the 110 High hurdles with his :15.34 clocking to also earn All Conference honors.
Andrew Wellik would place third in the 200 meter dash with a :23.03 time and Allen Jensen finished fourth in the 100 meters with a :23.51 clocking. Clayton Henderson picked up fourth place in the 110 High Hurdles with a :16.32 effort and the 4x200 relay, with Allen Jensen, Aaron Bird, Clayton Henderson and Andrew Wellik, took fourth with a time of 1:34.94.
Clayton Henderson earned sixth place in the 400 hurdles witha 1:02.10 clocking, while the Distance Medley relay, made up of Wesley Schultes, Jacob Kibbie, shay Mortenson and Nick Grandstaff, placed eighth with their clocking of 4:11.14.
Nick Grandstaff would claim tenth place in the 3200 meter run with his time of 11:29.95 and Wesley Schultes earned a tenth place finish in the long jump, coming away with a leap of 16'10". Shay Mortenson turned in a time of :56.12 in the 400 meter dash to finish 11th, while Nick Chapman placed 12th in the discus, throwing the platter 107'11".
Patrick Brennan placed 13th in the shot put with a heave of 38'3" and Wesley Brennan finished 13th in the 800 meter run with his 2:23.01 time. Aaron Bird earned 14th place in the 100 meter dash with a time of :12.65. Niklas Reichert finished in 15th place in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:30.19, while Nic Jackson earned 16th in the shot put with a throw of 32'2.5" and Lane Smith finished 16th in the 3200 meter run with a time of 13:52.03.
The E-Hawks will compete today (Thursday) in the Class 2A District Track Qualifying meet at Duane Twait Field in Emmetsburg.
First place finishers in each event automatically qualify for next week's State Track and Field Championships at Drake University in Des Moines. The next best 12 performances across the state will fill out the state meet field.
Action for the District Track meet will begin promptly at 4 p.m.
