FUEL Offers Opportunity for Young Adults

May 16, 2013
by Kelsey Buck , Emmetsburg News

FUEL Emmetsburg, or Fellowship Uniting Emerging Leaders, is a relatively new group for young adults in Emmetsburg. As a subdivision of the Chamber of Commerce, FUEL strives to attract, engage and retain the future leaders of the area.

FUEL provides an outlet for young adults in their 20s and 30s to take an active role in Emmetsburg by hosting events that "give back" to the community. They organize social events and activities for all ages while providing an avenue for networking among future leaders.

This year, FUEL is led by president Kristin Nostrom, vice president Brian Rouse, secretary Morgan Grimm and treasurer Somer Saxton.

A number of activities are already scheduled for the year. Once again, multiple outdoor family movies will be held at the open-air pavilion at the Palo Alto County Fairgrounds. The movies are free to attend and begin at 9 p.m. or dusk. Families are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs while they enjoy the summer months outside. Popcorn, courtesy of the fire hall, snacks and beverages will also be available for purchase.

The following is a list of movies scheduled to play this summer:

May 24 "Brave"

June 7 "Toy Story"

June 28 "Wizard of Oz"

July 12 "Monsters Inc."

July 26 "The Lion King"

Aug 9 "Tangled"

FUEL has created a strong foundation of members and is increasing its presence in the community. Future activities include a 4th of July volleyball tournament and youth games at the county fair. The organization also organizes fun social activities for its members like picnics in the park.

Membership is open to anyone in Emmetsburg or the surrounding community who is age 21 and over. Annual dues of $25 per person are used to fund various events sponsored by the group.

If you are interested in joining the group or would like more information, email fuelemmetsburg@gmail.com or visit their Facebook page at facebook.com/fuelemmetsburg.
