POCAHONTAS -- Joann Ruddy, 79, of Pocahontas, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2013, at the Fort Dodge Villa Care Center.
Funeral service was Wednesday, May 15, at the Powers Funeral Home in Pocahontas. The Rev. Fr. Paul Bormann officiated.
Burial was in St. John's Cemetery in Emmetsburg.
Josephine Ann Douglas was born Oct. 13, 1933, at Cylinder. She was the daughter of George and Annie (Grant) Douglas. She graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1952.
On May 16, 1953, Joann married Gerald Ruddy at Emmetsburg. The couple lived in Emmetsburg where Joann worked at Ted's Super Valu, the Red Owl and at Dutch's Diner. In 1978 they moved to Pocahontas where Joann was employed at Wood's Super Valu.
Joann was a member of the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church, the Catholic Ladies Society and the Knit-Cro Club. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening and bird watching. She also enjoyed following her children and grandchildren's activities.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry; sons, Steve (Mary Kapustka) Ruddy of Fort Dodge; J. Mark (Peg) Ruddy of Pocahontas and Doug (Coleen) Ruddy of Emmetsburg; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her twin sister, Georgie Howard of Emmetsburg; sister, Dorla Schuett of Ida Grove and brother, Richard (Patricia) Douglas of Fort Worth, TX.
Joann was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Terry Douglas.
