A potential addition to the Emmetsburg High School staff was presented to the school board Wednesday morning. The recommendation to hire Amy Ripperger as the new high school Spanish instructor was given by principal, Fred Matlage.

"Amy Ripperger comes from BGM (Brooklyn Guernsey Malcom)," said Matlage. "She's a third year teacher, upcoming fourth year. She's a graduate of Central College. Something that stood out with her was that she uses a lot of project based learning to help kids learn Spanish."

The school received seven applications and conducted four interviews from those applicants. "You know there's a shortage in the area when other schools are calling to ask who we interviewed so they can call and ask them if they would like to apply there," said Matlage.

Ripperger hopes to have more of a challenge as she transitions from a smaller district. "She had never been to Emmetsburg but was really impressed with the community," said Matlage. "Amy was very highly recommended by her current principal and would be a good fit."

The motion to accept Ripperger's recommendation was approved.
