A Mass of Christian Burial for Jean M. Millea will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, ?June 26, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. The Rev. Clem Currans is celebrant.
Interment will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Emmetsburg. Graveside military rites will be conducted by members of V.F.W. Post #2295, Emmetsburg. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg is in charge of arrangements.
Jean Marie Millea, daughter of Hilary and Lillian (Flaherty) Millea, was born Nov. 23, 1931 in Emmetsburg. She attended Emmetsburg Catholic School, graduating in 1949. She moved to Chicago and was employed by Continental Bank, now Bank of America, until her retirement in 1996.
Jean served in the United States Marines from 1953 until 1955. During her time in the service, Jean was in several Marines advertisements to promote women to serve in the military. She also had the opportunity to greet Bob Hope in Chicago, while serving in the Classification Platoon, 9th Infantry Battalion.She enjoyed listening to music and loved traveling.
After retiring from the bank, Jean moved to Sun City, FL, where she made her home until 2006 when she returned to Emmetsburg and lived at the Emmetsburg Care Center.
Jean passed away Sunday, June 23, 2013 at the Emmetsburg Care Center at the age of 81. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hilary and Lillian Millea; three sisters, Veronica and her husband, Carl Ohrtman, Ruth Avila, and Catherine Millea; brothers-in-law, Infred Ohrtman and Cecil Smith; sister-in-law, Kay Millea; two nepehws, Verne Smith and Marty Avila.
She is survived by three brothers, Jim Millea of Hartwick, NY, Tom Millea and his wife, Betty of Graettinger, and Bob Millea and his wife, Becky of Tulsa, OK; four sisters, Eileen Millea of Sun City Center, FL, twin sister, Jeanette Smith of Emmetsburg, Maureen Hemann and her husband, Bob of Emmetsburg, Madeline Lynch and her husband, Tom of Spirit Lake; many nieces and nephews; as well as other relatives and many friends.
