Lady E-Hawks Blanked At Spencer

June 25, 2013
by Dan Voigt , Emmetsburg News

SPENCER Emmetsburg's Lady E-Hawks were stymied in a 10-0 defeat at Spencer on Wednesday night to fall to 5-13 on the season and 2-7 in the Lakes Conference.

After a win on Tuesday at Algona, the Lady E-Hawks struggled to get their offense on track Wednesday, as they went down in order in the first inning but held Spencer defensively in their half of the first. It would be three up and three down in the top of the second for Emmetsburg, but Spencer would be stymied as well as the defense kept the Lady E-Hawks in the game early.

In the top of the third, Emmetsburg was retired in order again, but Spencer managed to plate a run with one out before the defense made the stop to take a 1-0 lead. Emmetsburg finally broke the ice in the top of the fourth when Whitney Kibbie singled, but was left waiting at second when the at-bat ended. Spencer would push four runs over the plate in their half of the inning off three hits and an error by the Emmetsburg defense for a 5-0 lead.

IS?SHE?OR?ISN’T?SHE? - Emmetsburg catcher Miranda Vlasman, pictured above, applies a tag on Spencer’s Alexa Allen during a play at the plate in action Wednesday night at Spencer. Though it appears Vlasman has the tag on, the runner was ruled safe on the play.

Emmetsburg went down in order in the top of the fifth inning, but Spencer would leave two runners stranded in their half of the inning to leave the score at 5-0 to start the sixth inning.

Once again, Emmetsburg was retired in order in the sixth inning and went on the defense. Spencer strung together a series of wild pitches and passed balls with three singles and a couple of errors to push five more runs over the plate to end the game by the 10-run rule.

Ashton Connelly would go three and two-thirds innings before being replaced in the circle. Connelly surrendered five runs, one earned, off eight hits with one walk and two strikeouts. Hali Noll relieved for the final two innings and surrendered five runs, three earned, off four hits with one walk and two strikeouts.

Whitney Kibbie was the only Lady E-Hawk to collect a hit in the contest.
