Lady E-Hawks Win County Matchup

It took some seventh inning heroics for Emmetsburg to come up with a 9-7 win over Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire in softball action Friday night. With the win, Emmetsburg improved to 6-13 on the season while GT/RA dropped to 6-15 on the season.

The Titans would lead off the contest by putting Daisy Jordan on base off an error, but Cassy Hampson flied out and Jordan was put out at second on Brooke Hoffman's fielders' choice. With two out, Marly Bakken lined out to end the at-bat. Emmetsburg came up and saw Whitney Kibbie fly out before Miranda Vlasman got on base off an error. A single from Emily Noll followed as Vlasman stole third and Noll moved to second. Jacque Carlson would strike out and Jenna Chapman grounded out to end the inning with two runners stranded.

Alyssa Hoffman and Morgan McGrauth both struck out in the second before Grace Skattebo reached on an error, but a strikeout of Jackie Tonderum ended the at-bat with Skattebo waiting at first. In the bottom of the second, Kate Jackson led off with a walk for the Lady E-Hawks. Ashley Overberg grounded out as Jackson went to third on a passed ball and an error allowed the freshman to score the game's first run. Kendall Deitering drew a walk and Alexa Naig grounded out before Whitney Kibbie flied out to end the inning.

Trailing 1-0 to start the third, the Titans grounded out in order as Sara Harris, Daisy Jordan and Cassy Hampson were put out at first in order. The Lady E-Hawks had Miranda Vlasman strike out, but Emily Noll walked and Jacque Carlson reached on an error. Noll would move to third, but pinch runner Allison Freeman was put out at second on Jenna Chapman's fielders' choice. Chapman would steal second, with Noll waiting at third, but Kate Jackson struck out to end the inning.

In the top of the fourth, Brooke Hoffman singled for the Titans and took second on an error before going to third on the passed ball. Marly Bakken drew a walk and stole second before Alyssa Hoffman grounded out at third, but Brooke Hoffman came home to tie the score before Morgan McGrauth and Grace Skattebo were put out to end the at-bat. Emmetsburg got a leadoff walk from Michaela Rehm and a single from Kendall Deitering and the duo would move around the bases to third and second before Alexa Naig sacrificed and then reached on an error to allow Rehm to score her run. Naig stole second as Kibbie flew out for the first out and Vlasman reached on an error that allowed Deitering to score her run. Naig moved to third and Vlasman went to second as Emily Noll walked.

An error by the Titans put Jacque Carlson on base as Naig came home and Vlasman followed for a 5-1 lead. With Noll moving to third and Carlson moving to second, Jenna Chapman struck out and Kate Jackson grounded out to end the inning.

Now trailing 5-1, the Titans weren't fazed. Jackie Tonderum struck out, but Sara Harris singled and Jordan reached on an error. A passed ball moved the two into scoring position before Cassy Hampson reached on an error that scored Harris. Hampson would be thrown out stealing second, but Jordan stole home to make the score 5-3. Brooke Hoffman walked and Bakken reached on an error before Alyssa Hoffman got on base off an error, that allowed Brooke Hoffman to score her run. An error put Morgan McGrauth on base and scored Bakken, but a fielders' choice on Grace Skattebo put McGrauth out at second to end the at-bat with the scored tied up at 5-5.

Emmetsburg would come up with Rehm reaching on an error, only to be put out at second on Deitering's fielders' choice. Alexa Naig flied out before Deitering stole second and Whitney Kibbie was hit by a pitch to go to first, but Deitering was caught stealing for the third out.

GT/RA would lead off the sixth with a single by Tonderum, but a fly ball out for Harris was followed by a double play when Jordan hit a line drive to Kate Jackson at short, who flipped the ball to Chapman at second to put Tonderum out. In the bottom of the sixth, Emmetsburg went down two outs by Vlasman and Noll, but Carlson walked, only to be left waiting when Chapman struck out.

In the top of the seventh, Cassy Hampson grounded out, but Brooke Hoffman singled. Marly Bakken grounded out to advance Hoffman before Alyssa Hoffman pounded a double to score Brooke Hoffman. Morgan McGrauth singled and Alyssa Hoffman came home on a throw as McGrauth went to second and then to third on a wild pitch, Grace Skattebo walked, but a fly out on Tonderum's at-bat ended the opportunity.

Trailing 7-5, Emmetsburg saw Jackson and Rehm both put out before Deitering was walked, but pinch hitter Hanna VanOosbree stepped up and cracked a home run over the fence in center field to tie the game at 7-7. Whitney Kibbie singled and Miranda Vlasman reached on an error, but Emily Noll stepped up and doubled deep to left field that allowed Kibbie to race home but Vlasman moved to third and broke for home, beating a throw to the plate to give Emmetsburg the 9-7 victory to end the game.

Hali Noll earned the win for Emmetsburg, as she pitched seven innings and allowed seven runs, three earned, off six hits, with three walks and four strikeouts. Alyssa Hoffman was tagged with the loss for the Titans, as she went seven innings and allowed nine runs, three earned, off five hits with one home run, while issuing seven walks and striking out five batters.

For Emmetsburg, Hanna VanOosbree had the Home Run, while Emily Noll had a double and single. Kendall Deitering and Whitney Kibbie both had base hits in the win. For Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire, Alyssa Hoffman had a double, while Brooke Hoffman had two hits. Morgan McGrauth, Jackie Tonderum and Sara Harris all added base hits to the effort.
