CHEROKEE Playing their third game in as many nights last week, Emmetsburg's Lady E-Hawks collected a 12-2 win over Cherokee in five innings Wednesday night at Cherokee. The win improved the Lady E-Hawks to 9-15 and 3-8 in league play.
Emmetsburg would jump out to an early lead in the top of the first, as Whitney Kibbie and Miranda Vlasman would both score runs and from that point, Emmetsburg didn't look back. With a solid defensive effort, the Lady E-Hawks would hold the Braves off in the first. The Lady E-Hawks plated two more runs in their half of the second, as Miranda Vlasman and Alexa Naig would both cross the plate to make the score 4-0. Cherokee would get a run in their half of the inning for a 4-1 tally, but in the top of the third inning, Emmetsburg put the game out of reach.
A seven-run outburst from the Lady E-Hawks saw Ashton Connelly, Kendall Deitering, Alexa Naig, Miranda Vlasman, Emily Noll, Jenna Chapman and Michaela Rehm all cross the plate to give Emmetsburg and 11-1 margin.
Cherokee was retired in order in their half of the inning to make the score 11-1 going into the fourth inning.
The Lady E-Hawks would not score in the top of the fourth, but Cherokee was able to add a score to their tally for an 11-2 score to start the fifth inning.
Emmetsburg wasted little time in putting the game away in the top of the fifth when Michaela Rehm came home for the game-winning run and the Braves were retired in order to end the game on the 10-run rule at the end of the fifth inning.
Ashton Connelly got the win, going five innings and allowing two runs off four hits with one walk and three strikeouts. For the Lady E-Hawks, Emily Noll, Hannah Bird and Jenna Chapman all hit doubles, while Kendall Deitering had two singles. Miranda Vlasman, Michaela Rehm and Ashton Connelly all added base hits to the effort.
