Pony Express Play Day at County Fair

Pony Express Play Day wil be part of the Palo Alto County Fair. In addition, a Pony Express Cowgirl Queen will be crowned at the Open Class Horse Show.

The events are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Sunday, July 21, at the Palo Alto County Fairgrounds in Emmetsburg.

The Open Class Horse Show includes 30 classes for Junior and Senior riders. Junior classes are for riders age 14 years and under; Senior classes are for riders age 15 years and older.

Classes include: Leadline, Walk-Trot, Grab Bag, Poles, Keyhole, Boot Race, Streaking, Barrels, Ribbon Race, Catalog Race, Musical Walk Trot Tires, Flag Race, Egg &?Spoon, Izzy Dizzy Race, Dash for Cash, Softball Race, Pick Up Race, 4 in a Line, Rat Race and Ride-A-Buck.

"If your child is riding in lead line, then they are not allowed to be in other classes without being led by parent on foot," noted Dakota Johnson, Pony Express organizer of the event.

Cowgirl Queen Contest

Pony Express Cowgirl Queen will be crowned at the Open Class Horse Show. Junior and Senior Queens will be eligible to compete at the Iowa State Fair, representing Palo Alto County Pony Express.

To be eligible, Pony Express membership is required and an be purchased at the competition. Royalty contestants are required to wear plain white long sleeved shirt, blue or black jeans, western hat and boots.

Junior class is age 10-15, Senior class is 16-26 years, ages as of Jan. 1 or as State Fair rules apply. Princess class is 9 years and under. Prizes may vary.

Junior and Senior Queens will be eligible to represent Palo Alto County Pony Express at the Iowa State Fair.
