LAKE PARK It took some patience and a little help for Emmetsburg's E-Hawks to pick up a 4-3 win over the Wolves of Harris-Lake Park in a non-conference baseball game Friday night. The win improved Emmetsburg to 9-11 on the season.
With a gusty wind blowing across the field at Lake Park, the E-Hawks struggled to get their offense on track in the contest. Dillon VanOosbree led off Friday with a single, and after a sacrifice by Luke Jackson, Jake Jackson drew a walk to bring Van Oosbree to third. But with runners at the corners, the E-Hawks would strand the pair as Greg Wesley struck out and Joe Jackson was put out. But on defense, Emmetsburg made short work of the Wolves, retiring the hosts in order to end the first frame.
In the top of the second, though, Emmetsburg would go down in order, as Taylor Wegner drew a walk, but his courtesy runner, Wes Schultes, was picked off at first. Jake Kibbie and Zach Anderson would both strike out to end the at-bat. The Wolves would get a base runner in their half of the inning by drawing a walk after a strikeout, but E-Hawk starter Taylor Wegner tallied two more strikeouts to end the second inning.

The E-Hawks were retired in order in the top of the third, but Harris-Lake Park managed to put a runner on base off a walk, only to leave him waiting when they were struck out to end the third frame with a scoreless deadlock. Emmetsburg would get Greg Wesley on base in the top of the fourth off a hard-hit single t third base. Wesley would steal second and move to third on a passed ball, but he was left waiting when the E-Hawks were struck out to end the at-bat.
Harris-Lake Park would score the game's first run in the bottom of the fourth inning, using a batter hit by a pitch to get the runner on base, and then scoring him off a pair of base hits before the E-Hawk defense made the stop, but not before the Wolves had loaded the bases to end the inning with a 1-0 lead.
In the top of the fifth inning, Emmetsburg led off the at-bat with a big single in the right center field from Jake Kibbie. Kibbie stole second and took third off a wild pitch, but was left waiting when the E-Hawks were retired. The Wolves got a runner on base off a leadoff error on a dropped third strike. A base hit and a walk would follow, but H-LP would leave the bases loaded for the second straight inning as Emmetsburg's defense made the big stop.
Trailing 1-0 to start the sixth, the E-Hawks needed something big to happen to spark the offense. Luke Jackson lit the fire with a leadoff double. A base hit from Jake Jackson put Luke on third base and prompted a pitching change by the Wolves. With runners at third and second, Greg Wesley issued a sacrifice RBI to score Luke Jackson's run to tie the game up at 1-1. However, Jake Jackson would make his way to third, only to be stranded when the at-bat ended.
Harris-Lake Park responded in a big way of their own, getting a leadoff triple, but the big hit turned into the second out off a fielders' choice. But, some good baserunning, coupled with a single, scored a run and a double would score a second run before the Wolves were retired, but they now held a 3-1 lead over the E-Hawks as the final inning started.
Jake Kibbie led off with a base hit and was followed on base by Zach Anderson after he drew a walk. Pinch hitter Wes Schultes hit a foul fly for the first out, but three straight walks for Dillon VanOosbree, Luke Jackson and Jake Jackson scored Kibbie's run and a run by Zach Anderson to tie the score at 3-3, but Greg Wesley was hit by a pitch to bring VanOosbree over the plate for the4-3 lead before Joe Jackson and Taylor Wegner were struck out to end the at-bat.
Now, it was time to play defense. The Wolves would get a leadoff single in the bottom of the seventh, but two quick put-outs were followed by a strikeout that left the HLP runner waiting at third base to end the game with the come from behind E-Hawk victory.
For Emmetsburg, Taylor Wegner started the contest on the hill and pitched five innings, giving up one run off three hits with three walks and 12 strikeouts. Jake Jackson relieved for the final two innings, giving up two runs, both earned, off four hits, with two strikeouts.
The E-Hawks would come away with six hits, as Luke Jackson had an RBI Double, while Jake Kibbie had two base hits. Jake Jackson and Greg Wesley both had RBI singles and Dillon VanOosbree added a base rap.
