As the calendar turns to August, the start of the 2013-14 school year is just a couple of weeks out. The Fall Athletic seasons will be starting on August 12, and the annual membership drive for the Emmetsburg E-Hawk Booster Club is in full swing at this time.
The Booster Club is once again soliciting memberships and volunteers to not only join and support the student athletes of the Emmetsburg Community Schools, but also to help out with their time, talent and treasures for various functions and events.
Members of the Emmetsburg E-Hawk Booster Club assist the athletic programs with concession stand operations, ticket takers and other capacities throughout the school year, and signups for assisting at various events is currently underway in conjunction with the annual membership drive.
Each year, Booster club memberships offer supporters of Emmetsburg athletic programs a chance not only to assist in the ongoing efforts of the student athletes, but also an opportunity for boosters to be recognized for their support. Through the yearly membership in the E-Hawk Booster Club, the monies raised are used to provide additional financial support to all athletic programs sponsored by the Emmetsburg Community Schools.
In the 2012-2013 school year, through the efforts of the Emmetsburg Sports Booster Club, a donation of $11,940 was given to the Emmetsburg Community Schools to be placed in the Athletics Budget, which is used directly for the needs of the district's student athletes. Leading off the gifts was a donation of $25,130 to the Emmetsburg High School General Activity Fund to support activities. The Booster club also sponsored the Senior Athletic Recognition Banquet, and also provided funding assistance towards the acquisition of the volleyball solo spike machine, Painting of the E-Hawk Logo on the new Baseball dugout, sack lunches for athletic travel, new scoreboards in the high school gymnasium, meal funding for state tournament participants Speed, Agility and Quickness t-shirts and the second half of pledge for the weight room project. Funds were also used for a donation to the 2013 Iowa Shrine All Star Bowl game, HUDL Software for multiple sports, new uniforms for the Middle School track athletes, High School Track and Field equipment, including the lap counter and high jump height display. Additional funds were also directed toward a donation to the Hot Shots Trap Shooting Team, a second set of catcher's gear for the softball team, travel equipment bags for the football program, funding for the B.E.S.T basketball shooting camp and new uniforms for the Middle School basketball teams.
As part of the annual fundraising campaign, the Booster Club is planning the Third Annual E-Hawk Booster Club Four-Person Best Shot Golf Tournament. This year's tournament will feature special honors for for Bob Roethler, former E-Hawk Wrestling Coach and long-time volunteer assistant to the wrestling program. The 2013 edition of the golf outing has been set for Saturday, August 17 at the Five Island Golf Course in Emmetsburg, starting with a shot-gun start at 3:00 p.m. The tournament will feature a nine-hole format with Ribeye steak meal, grilled by the Palo Alto County Cattlemen at the conclusion along with awards ceremony. Registration will take place at the clubhouse from 2 to 3:00 p.m. In case of rain, the event will be held on Sunday, August 18. Foursomes are not required. Individuals are welcomed and will be paired up with other golfers to enjoy the outing. As an added inducement, any hole-in-one recorded during the tournament will earn the lucky golfer or golfers a Lifetime E-Hawk Athletics admission ticket. The Board of Directors of the Emmetsburg E-Hawk Athletic Booster Club includes Julie Elbert, Tony Stubbs, Rhonda Kliegl, Donna Garrelts, Jim and Stephanie Bird, Scott and Kim Kibbie and Kori Huberty, along with Kristen Ruiz, Scott and Heather Wirta, along with new board members Pat and Tina Joyce, Mike and Tracey Carlson and Kari Schany.
For the 2013-2014 school year, a new opportunity for membership has been created. Along with the Senior Membership and four levels of traditional membership, a Junior Hawk membership is now available to all E-Hawk supporters who are students in the Emmetsburg Schools. Through a donation, a student activity ticket is issued to the youth of your choice, The Junior Hawk members makes a great gift for a grandchild, neighbor or a student in need.
The four traditional levels of membership include White, Black, Gold and E-Hawk Membership. A White membership is the general, basic membership and gives the member an E-Hawk Booster window decal. At the Black membership level, one adult activity ticket is included in the membership package, which allows the member admission to all home non-tournament events, along with the E-Hawk Booster window decal.
The Gold level of membership includes two activity tickets in the membership package, along with the window decal, while the E-Hawk Membership package provides three adult activity tickets and window decal. Also, for each level of membership, the donor's name is listed on the official Emmetsburg Athletic programs that are distributed at each home athletic event throughout the season.
For those who might wish to assist a needy student, the Booster Club is sponsoring a Junior Hawk donation, which will allow for the purchase of a student activity admission ticket that the donor may specific the recipient, or leave the issuance up to school officials to a deserving student.
Memberships in the E-Hawk Athletic Booster Club are being accepted a the current time, and may be dropped off at the Booster Club drop box, located at Emmetsburg Municipal Utilities, 2021 Main Street in Emmetsburg, or mailed to P.O. Box 459 in Emmetsburg. Memberships must be received by August 9 in order to place the donor's name in the athletic programs for the football and volleyball seasons.
