A Mass of Christian Burial for Roland C. White of Emmetsburg was held Monday, July 29, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. The Rev. Clem Currans officiated.
Inurnment will be in Black Hills National Cemetery at Sturgis, SD. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg is in charge of arrangements.
Roland C. White, son of Carl A. and Lorinda (Birgen) White, was born Sept. 6, 1933 in New Hampton. He received his education and graduated from St. Williams School in Alta Vista. Following graduation Roland attended Iowa State University in Ames. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Tachikawa, Japan.
After being honorably discharged from the service, Roland attended DeVry Institute in Chicago, IL. He worked as an electrician during the construction of a creamery in Cresco. He then began working for the Central Iowa Telephone Company that was later bought out by General Telephone Company.
On June 20, 1959, Roland was united in marriage to Pearl Irene Fink in Tea, SD. To this union three children were born. Pearl and Roland made their home in Emmetsburg for 54 years where they enjoyed several years of retirement.
Roland was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and V.F.W. Post #2295, both in Emmetsburg.
Roland passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at the Emmetsburg Care Center at the age of 79. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Pearl of Emmetsburg; his children, Lorelei (Phil) Puckett of Scranton, KS, Linda (Jim) Currid of Lawson, MO, and Thomas (Kathy) White of Eagan, MN; his grandchildren; and a sister, Geneva Kolbet.
