DES MOINES -An Emmetsburg lawyer is one of two Northwest Iowans applying to fill a vacancy later this year on the Iowa Court of Appeals. A total of 22 lawyers and judges from across the state have expressed their interest in filling the position.
Peter C. Hart of Emmetsburg, an Assistant County Attorney in Dickinson County, along with Randy Waagmeester of Rock Rapids, has applied to be considered to fill the vacancy that will occur when Court of Appeals Chief Judge Larry Eisenhauer retires September 30th of this year.
To fill the vacancy, the Iowa Judicial Nominating Commission is taking applications to fill the vacancy. The 17-member commission has meetings set for August 21st and 22nd for interviews. From those 22 interviews, the commissioners will select three finalists to forward to Governor Terry Branstad. The Governor then has 30 days under the Iowa Code in which to appoint the new judge.
