The August 20, 2013 meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post 2295 was opened at 7 p.m. by President LouAnn Huberty with the pledge to the flag and singing of the National Anthem. 11 members were present.
Minutes from the July meeting were read and approved. A Thank You for getting 100% of our membership was read, and we will receive $75 for meeting our membership goal. General orders for the month of August were read. The treasurer's report was given by Ellen Picray.
LouAnn read information from the State office. The 10th District meeting will be held in Clarion on September 15. The Patriot's Pen, Patriotic Art, and Voice of Democracy categories are as follows: 3rd grade - I Love America Because; 4th grade - My Favorite Freedom Is; 5th grade - How Do We Show Our Pride In America?
We also talked about Emmetsburg businesses who have flag poles and which ones fly the American flag. We have approximately 25 with poles and found about 8 that do not have flags flying. We will be giving out certificates to those who do fly their flags.
Make A Difference Day will be in October. We need to come to our September meeting with ideas of what to do for that day.
Our next meeting will be on September 17 with committee consisting of Linda Rouse, Mary Abels, Murial Gilman, Frances Vaughan and Agnes Ankeny.
