Palo Alto County Extension is holding an organizational meeting on Monday, September 23rd for all youth interested in becoming a member of the 4-H Shooting Sports 4-H Club. The meeting will be held at the Palo Alto County Extension Office in Emmetsburg beginning at 6:30 PM. This meeting is for all youth in grades 4-12 and parents interested in learning more about 4-H Shooting Sports. Program objectives include:
To enhance the physical, cognitive, social and emotional development of youth through safe, educational, and socially acceptable involvement in a shooting related activity.
To teach safe and responsible use of firearms and archery equipment including sound decision-making, self-discipline, and concentration.
To promote the highest standards of safety, sportsmanship, and ethical behavior.
To encourage understanding of our natural resources and the development of a personal environmental stewardship ethic by young people through participation in shooting, hunting, and related activities.
To strengthen families through life-long recreational activities.
Disciplines being offered this year will include archery, rifle, and shotgun. The shotgun discipline has an age requirement of 11 years of age. Youth will be asked to pick one discipline and stick with it for one year. We do have some attendance requirements so we need to know who is interested now so they can get their safety training done before we actually shoot in the spring.
If you are interested in becoming a member but can't attend the meeting, please contact the Palo Alto County Extension Office and let us know your intent.
