The season for Homecomings continues in Palo Alto County as the West Bend-Mallard/Gilmore City-Bradgate School celebrate their Homecoming this week. The week's festivities will conclude on Friday night, Sept. 20, when the Wolverines play host to in-county rivals, the Titans of Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire in the Homecoming football game.
Homecoming week activities got off to a start today, Tuesday, with Hobo Day, with students dressing up as traveling hobos.
Wednesday will be Class Color Day, where each class is to wear specific colored clothing. The Senior class is assigned the color black, while the Junior class will be earing their best white clothing. For the Sophomore class, blue is the color of the day and the color of the day for the Freshmen will be pink. The faculty and staff at WBM/GCB will also get into the act, and they are assigned the color green to wear on Wednesday.
Thursday will be Super Hero/Villain Day with students being able to imitate their favorite superhero or super villain, Activities ramp up Thursday afternoon and evening, starting at 5 p.m. with the Homecoming Parade through the downtown business district in West Bend. Immediately following the parade, the annual WBM/GCB Athletic Boosters supper will be served in the high school cafeteria.
The annual uniform auction will begin at 6:30 PM in the high school gym and will be followed by the introduction of the Homecoming court and the presentation of the various class skits.
At the conclusion of the class skits, the Homecoming coronation will take place in the gym. For 2013, the Homecoming court includes Queen Candidates Ashley Schmidt, daughter of Frank and Dawn Schmidt; Jenna Thul, daughter of Mark and Kristyn Thul; Andrea Knobloch, daughter of Jim and Sandy Knobloch; and Lauren Thatcher, daughter of Mike and Diane Thatcher.
King candidates are Jesse Zinnel, son of Jim and Becky Zinnel; Nathan Grimm, son of Jordon and Ann Grimm; Braden Knobloch, son of Cameron and Tammy Knobloch; and Jordan Buhs, son of Andrea Buhs and Kevin Buhs.
Serving as the class attendants for the Homecoming court are Freshman attendants, Garth Fehr and Elizabeth Gehrt; Sophomore attendants, Harmon Atwood and Anna Zaugg and Junior attendants, Carson Wirtz and Alicia Mogler.
Friday will be Purple and Gold Day, with all students at West Bend-Mallard /Gilmore City-Bradgate being urged to support the Wolverines by wearing their purple and gold. A?community pep rally is then planned for 2:55 p.m. at the school.
The Homecoming football game will be played against Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire at 7 p.m. Friday, September 20th in West Bend. The game will feature an extended halftime show for introductions of the Homecoming Royalty and the parade of floats.
