GRAETTINGER -- Funeral service for Duane A. Kiner were held Saturday, Sept. 28, at the United Methodist Church in Graettinger.
Burial was in Valley View Cemetery. The Joyce-Alesch Funeral Home in Graettinger was in charge of arrangements.
Duane Alvin Kiner, Sr. was born on Sept. 5, 1915, the son of Harry and Ida (Benett) Kiner. They lived in Greene County in a place called Squirrel Holler.
On Sept. 7, 1935, Duane was united in marriage to Opal Lewis at Jefferson Baptist Parsonage. Duane worked for many farmers in the area Graettinger area. He also worked for the Corner Gas Station, Shaver Mfg., and Hills Packing Plant, which became John Morrell Packing Plant in Estherville.
During retirement, Duane enjoyed working on and rebuilding tractors with his son, David.
Duane was a member of the United Methodist Church.
After a courageous battle with cancer, on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, Duane passed away at Mercy Hospital in Mason City.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Duane Kiner, Jr. (Phyllis) of Spirit Lake, Sharen Kiner of Lawrence, KS, Ronald Kiner of Ames, Judy Kiner of Lawrence, KS, and David Kiner of Graettinger; 18 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife, Opal; his daughter, Karen Pra-ther; two sisters; three brothers and three half-sisters.
