A construction worker was seriously injured Tuesday morning in an accident at the Project Liberty site.
According to Palo Alto County Sheriff Lynn Schultes, the sheriff's office was requested at 9:12 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1 to respond to the Project Liberty construction site to investigate a report of a man who had fallen. Following their arrival at the scene, sheriff's deputies determined the victim, 31-year old Elvin Diaz of Greensboro, NC, was working on top of the cooling tower building when he lost his footing and fell approximately 37 feet to the concrete.
Elvin Diaz was transported to the Palo Alto County Hospital by the Emmetsburg Ambulance service for initial treatment and was later transferred to a Sioux Falls, SD hospital by helicopter for further treatment of his injuries.
The Emmetsburg Ambulance and Paramedics assisted the Palo Alto County Sheriff's Office at the scene.
