For the third year, area residents are invited to join in the "Healthiest State Walk" next Wednesday, Oct. 9, to help make Iowa the healthiest state in the nation.
Several walks are planned for Wednesday.
Meet at the Fareway parking lot at 12 noon and join manager Lloyd Satterwhite as he leads the group to the south shore of Five Island Lake and back. This route is a 1K walk.
Palo Alto County Health System invites the public to join them at 12 noon Wednesday. Meet in front of the hospital for an 8-block walk in conjunction with Iowa's "Healthiest State Walk."
Teachers and students at Emmetsburg Catholic School will also be walking on Wednesday.
To measure the state's progress, Iowa is using the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, which tracks six areas, or "domains," that comprise our well-being. In 2012, Iowa ranked s the 9th Healthiest State in the Nation. While this ranking puts Iowa solidly in the top quarter of the country, this is an improvement over the previous ranking of #16. Still, Iowa can do better!
The Healthiest State Initiative is a privately led public initiative intended to inspire Iowans and their communities throughout the state to improve their health and happiness.
