The Algona Area Girls Swim Team earned a fifth place finish on Saturday, Sept. 29 at the Polar Bear Invitational, held at Des Moines North High School. The local swimmers would finish Saturday's event with 128 points overall.
"It was another good meet for as all 18 events we entered scored," noted Algona Coach Jim Fisher. "We had eight top-six finishers make the medal stand and 11 events beat their seed times. Everyone is starting to understand what they need to do to get better."
Top finishers at the Polar Bear Invitational for the Algona Area swimmers were Jessica Anderson finishing second in the 200 free with a 2:24.29 clocking. Maddie Stubbs would place third in the 100 Fly with her time of 1:11.67.
Also finishing third was the 400 meter Free Relay squad comprised of Emma Plathe, Ashley Wille, Maddie Stubbs and Jessica Anderson with a time of 4:34.32.
The 200 Free Relay Team of Emily McMahon, Abby Strohman, Maddie Stubbs and Jessica Anderson was fourth and Maddie Stubbs finished fifth in the 200 IM with a 2:41.33 effort. Also finishing fifth was the 200 Medley Relay team of Casey Harms, Abby Strohman, Maddie Stubbs and Emma Plathe at 2.22.64.
Michelle Goodman would earn an eighth place finish overall in the 100 Fly.
