2013 UNIFUND Campaign Gets Underway

2013 UNIFUND of Emmetsburg “Caring is Sharing” Community Campaign

Sixteen organizations are included in the 2013 UNIFUND of Emmetsburg campaign, under the theme "Sharing is Caring."

Pledge sheets were sent to Emmetsburg residents this month, included with Emmetsburg Municipal Utilities billing. The sheets list a description of each organization. Volunteers from participating organizations will go door-to-door the first two weeks in November to collect the sheets and donations.

Included in 2013 UNIFUND are:

Boy Scout Troop #46 - Serves youth in the Emmetsburg community.

E-Hawk Flag Football Works with over 125 young E-Hawks from grades 1-6 to teach basic football fundamentals and the basics of E-Hawk football in a safe, sound learning environment.

Emmetsburg Little League Boys and girls Little League teams play at the ball complex in southwest Emmetsburg. Parents volunteer their time and talents to coach teams and care for the fields.

Emmetsburg Police Reserves Volunteer officers work one shift per month. They also perform community service, which includes working at athletic events, security at college and high school functions, and working at the Palo Alto County Fair.

Emmetsburg Soccer/Palo Alto County Soccer - Recreational soccer for Pre K-8th grade of Palo Alto County in NW Iowa during the Fall and Spring including Ayrshire, Cylinder, Curlew, Emmetsburg, Graettinger, Mallard, Rodman, Ruthven, Terril, and West Bend. Parents volunteer their time and talents to coach teams and care for the fields.

Emmetsburg Swim Team Emmetsburg Swim Team a program for swimmers 5-18 years old during the Summer and Winter months. Swimmers are not only from Emmetsburg but other nearby communities. Swim meets are held at the Smith Wellness Center Pool which host swimmers from Northwest and North Central Iowa. Swimmers also travel throughout the Midwest to participate in swim meets.

Emmetsburg Volunteer Fire Department Firemen are continually updating their equipment and their training to better serve the community.

Hospice of Palo Alto County Hospice is an organization to care for the terminally ill in their final days. Donations are used to assist those without funding, needed equipment and volunteer education.

Palo Alto County Child Care Council - Provides programs free of charge on safety,

bullying, and sexual abuse prevention to all children and adults in both the school setting and for community groups.

Palo Alto County Council on Aging and Multipurpose Center Provide a safe and pleasant environment for Seniors to come and enjoy a nutritious hot meal provided by Elderbridge. Also provides a place to have some social time together.

Palo Alto County Genealogical Society Collects and preserves historical records of Palo Alto County for future generations. There is a genealogical library for the use of its members and others interested in family research.

Palo Alto County Historical Society Involves members interested in preserving the history of Emmetsburg and the surrounding community.

Palo Alto County Hospital Auxiliary Is comprised of volunteers from the county who help fund and staff a variety of services at Palo Alto County Hospital. These volunteers raise money to purchase equipment and to support services that benefit the health of the county through the hospital.

Palo Alto County Meals on Wheels Meals on Wheels is a service provided to elderly residents. Meals are delivered by volunteers, Monday through Friday.

Horizons Unlimited Providing opportunities for people with disabilities to develop their full potential in a positive atmosphere.

RSVP Volunteer Program Recruits people 55 and older to meet community needs through volunteer services. Volunteers tutor and mentor children, provide medical and other necessary transportation, visit homebound elderly and nursing home patients, and provide various types of assistance to local agencies and non-profit organizations. RSVP is sponsored in Northwest Iowa by Iowa Lakes Community College.
