George Weber, age 98, passed away, Oct. 30, 2013 at the Ruthven Community Care Center.
He was born on a farm near Pocahontas, on March 30, 1915, the son of Adam and Mayme (Cullen) Weber. He was one of a family of six children all of whom predeceased him. His brothers and sisters were Ed, Melvin, Marshall, Leona and Wayne. He graduated in 1932 from Garfield County School.
George married Letha Alexander on Jan. 18, 1941. They celebrated 56 years of marriage before her death on March 15, 1997. The young couple began farming in the Webb and Laurens areas before moving to Ayrshire in 1949. They raised three sons on the family farm; Donald (deceased), Jon Michael and David.
George farmed nearly all of his life, continuously from the age of 17 until his last harvest at 94. He was especially proud of having harvested corn for 78 years in a row. He started out picking by hand and ended up on a six row combine.
He leaves his two sons; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; nieces, and nephews to honor his life and his memory.
A memorial service was held Monday, Nov. 4, at the United Methodist Church in Ayrshire The Rev. Roger Maize officiated.
Inurnment was in Silver Lake Cemetery, Ayrshire. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
