ALGONA -- Adam Smith, age 35, of Algona died on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 27, at the First Baptist Church in Algona, with Rev. Kevin Hollinger officiating. Burial was at Ellington Cemetery in Mallard.
Adam Matthew Smith, the son of Frank A. And Diane Kay (Franksain) Smith, was born on April 13, 1978 in Emmetsburg. He graduated from East Fork Alternative High School in 1998.
Adam was united in marriage with JoAnn Schumacher on Aug. 9, 2003 in Mallard. He had worked as a plumber since 2000 and for Algona Plumbing & Heating since 2011.
Adam enjoyed his flower beds, collecting rocks for landscaping and rock sculptures, camping and camp fires, Frisbee golf, painting and he had a love for animals; particularly cats.
Left to cherish Adam's memory is his wife of 10 years, JoAnn; his parents, Frank and Diane Smith of Mallard; a brother, Lee Smith and his wife Tonya of Dallas Center; a sister, Nicole Heng and her husband Ty of Mallard; grandmother, Arlene Franksain of Marathon; mother-in-law, Mary Schumacher of Whittemore; three sisters-in-law, Wanda Hart and her husband Chris of Spencer, Shauna Snyder and her husband Jason of Eldon and Tara Batterson and her husband Jeromy of Ottumwa; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Frank and Kate Smith and Frank Franksain; and his father-in-law, Wayne Schumacher in 2010.
