The first game of the season for Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire's Titans was fruitful with an exciting 63-61 win over in-county rival West Bend-Mallard/Gilmore City-Bradgate on Monday, Dec. 2.
Coach Randy Hough's Titans opened the season with an early 20-16 lead over the Wolverines after one quarter of play, but WBM/GCB would battle back in the second quarter to take a 36-31 lead at the half-time intermission.
The Titans didn't lose their cool in the second half, as they fought back to retake the lead and slip out to a seven-point, 48-41 lead to end the third quarter. In the final stanza of action, the Titans would battle the Wolverines bucket for bucket, and with a narrow two-point lead with the clock spinning down, WBM/GCB tried a last-second desperation shot that banked off the iron to give the Titans the season opening win.
GT/RA had three players in double figures for the offense, as Lane Reiman tallied 16 points, while Andy Geelan and Noah Stukey both came up with a bakers' dozen 13 points in the victory. Mason McGrauth would add eight points to the coffers, with Connor Sturgill coming away with six points. Nick Josephson came off the bench to add three points, and Joe Tonderum and Jared Sikora both score two points each to round out the effort.
The Titans will play host to Storm Lake St. Mary's in a game tonight (Tuesday)?to be played in Ruthven, and then return to Cornbelt Conference action on Friday night, Dec. 13, when they will host North Union's Warriors in a girl-boy doubleheader at Graettinger.
