GT/RA?Wrestlers Open Campaign With Double Dual, Tourney

GRAETTINGER - The Titans of Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire opened their 2013-14 wrestling campaign with a split in a double dual on Thursday and a third-place finish in tournament action on Saturday.

On Thursday night, Dec. 5, the Titans traveled to Spencer for double dual action with the Okoboji Pioneers and the Spencer Tigers. The Titans would edge Okoboji 42-39, but fell to Spencer by a 57-18 final tally.

The evening's action started at 160 pounds against Spencer, with the Titans' Hunter Brown being pinned in 1:47 by Jacob Sandvig. At 170 pounds, Matt McGrauth earned a 6-4 decision victory over Hunter Cauthron, but at 182 pounds, the Tigers' Tristin Vermulm scored a 1:35 win by fall over GT/RA's Kodi Ferguson to put Spencer up 12-3.

Ben Pingel of Spencer pinned Nate Harris of the Titans in 3:55 of their 195 pound match, and at 220 pounds, Austin Roberts scored a 2:39 win by fall over Kyle Long to make the score 24-3.

In the Heavyweight match, GT/RA's Cody Thompson earned a 7-3 decision win over Casey Severson to make the score 24-6 and at 106 pounds, the Titans' Cody Marlow earned a 1:08 win by fall over the Tigers' Colin Elsbecker for a 24-12 tally.

Spencer would come back with a :55 win by fall as Cody Huckfelt pinned Keeven Long in the 113 pound match, and at 120 pounds, Dylan Huntoon scored an :18 pin victory over the Titans' Jordan Thompson to make the score 30-12.

The Tigers' Trevor Streuli earned a 6-5 decision over Alex Hoffman in action at 126 pounds for a 33-12 lead, and at 132 pounds, Spencer's Nick Gross earned a 1;12 win by fall over Beau Schany.

With a 39-12 lead, the Tigers got a bye at 138 pounds before Ty Gibson earned a 3:07 win by fall over Adam W. Johnson for the Titans , but the Tigers' Andrew White scored a 3:34 win by fall over Tyler Hoffman in the 152 pound match to tally the 57-18 win.

GT/RA then squared off against the Okoboji Pioneers in what would be a much closer match.

Okoboji's Jordan Hanna earned a 3:26 win by fall over Matt McGrath to open the dual at 170 pounds, but the Titan's Kodi Ferguson pinned Riley Anderson in 4:43 of their match at 182.

Austin Kolegraff claimed a 2:57 win by fall over Nate Harris of GT/RA to take a 12-6 lead, but Kyle Long tied the dual up with his :47 pin of Cole Millard at 220 pounds. Cody Thompson would give the Titans a lead when he received a bye at heavyweight, and Cody Marlow put the Titans on top with aa 1:23 win by fall over Jack Humphrey in the 106 pound match for a 24-12 advantage.

Okoboji's Brady Jones earned :19 pin over Keeven Long at 113 pounds, and Adam Dublinski earned 7-2 decision win over the Titans' Jordan Thompson to make the score 24-21.

At 126 pounds, Alex Hoffman came up with a :53 win by fall over Isaac Fritsch, but Colbin Larue pinned Beau Schany in 3:10 of the 132 pound match to keep the dual close at 30-27.

Okoboji retook the lead when Ryan Bolster scored a :42 pin over Joey Ferguson in the 138 pound match, but Ty Gibson got the Titans back on top with his :28 pin over Brandon Adams in the 145 pound match.

Noah Bouse would slip the Pioneers back on top with a :52 pin over the Titans' Tyler Hauge in the 152 pound match, but Tyler Hoffman won the dual for GT/RA with his 2:51 win by fall over Layne Rickman to give the Titans the 42-39 win.

The Titans would travel to Milford on Saturday for the Okoboji Invitational, where they finished third in the team standings with a pair of individual champions and three runner-up finishes.

Leading the way for the Titans were Matt McGrauth at 170 pounds and Cody Thompson at Heavyweight.

At 170, McGrath earned a 22-7 Technical Fall in the first round over Michael Dau of Hartley-Melvin Sanborn and a 14-0 Major Decision over Hunter Cauthron of Spencer in the semi's before winning the title in a 5-4 decision over Zach Fugitt of Central Lyon.

AT 285 pounds, Cody Thompson received a first-round bye and then earned a 12-2 major decision over Alex Krute of Central Lyon in the semi-finals. In the finals, Thompson scored a 2:17 win by fall over Huston Coleman of Sibley-Ocheyedan to win the title.

Second place finishes when to Kodi Ferguson at 182 pounds, Ty Gibson at 145 pounds and Alex Hoffman at 126 pounds.

Alex Hoffman would score an opening round :53 win by fall over Dylan Sprock of Central Lyon, and then decisioned Dylan Schuck of Sibley-Ocheyedan by a 10-8 score in the semis. For the finals, Hoffman would come up short in an 8-4 decision loss to Trevor Streuli of Spencer to finish second.

At 145, Ty Gibson pinned Tanner Robertson of Central Lyon in 1:29 of the opening round, and pinned Garrett Saylor of S/O in 1:35 to move into the finals, where he lost a 15-1 Major Decision to Zac Skopec of Spirit Lake to finish as runner up.

In action at 182 pounds, Kody Ferguson received a first-round bye, then won a 12-6 decision over Matt Koening of Sioux Central. For the finals, Ferguson would be pinned in 3:16 by Tristan Vermulm of Spencer for the second place finish.

Nate Harris finished fourth for the Titans at 195 pounds, after he received a first-round bye, but was pinned by Adam Kolegraff of Okoboji in 1:47. Harris came back to win a 3:59 fall over Jose Ledesma of Sioux Central, but was pinned in :54 by Ben Pingel of Spencer to finish fourth.

Fifth place honors wen to Kyle Long at 220 pounds as he opened with a 1:44 fall over Cody Wernimont of Spirit Lake, but was pinned in:46 by Trave VanderStreek of Central Lyon. Long would be pinned by Devin Hoekstra of S/) in 2:30 but won the fifth place match with a 2:41 fall over Cody Wernimont.

At 152, Tyler Hoffman won a 15-8 decision over Brett Klingenberg of Central Lyon to open the day, but was pinned in 3:49 by Noah Bouse of Okoboji. Against Andrew White of Spencer, Hoffman would be pinned in 1:15, but Hoffman earned fifth place with an injury default from Dakota Drenth of HMS.

Beau Schany, wrestling at 152 pounds, was pinned by Colby Mcintire of Central Lyon in :17 to open the day, but came back to pin Mat Moody of Spirit Lake in 2:56. Schany then was pinned in :47 by Colbin LaRue of Okoboji, but won fifth place with a :46 win by fall over Mike Myers of West Hancock.

At 106 pounds, Cody Marlowe opened with a 7-4 decision win over Jack Humphrey of Okoboji, but lost a 15-6 Major Decision to Colin Elsbecker of Spencer. Marlowe then was pinned in 5:33 by Daniel Rivera of HMS, but came back to take fifth with a 9-5 decision over Jack Humphrey of Okoboji.

Finishing sixth were Hunter Brown at 160, Jordan Thompson at 120 and Keeven Long at 113 pounds. while Sam George, wrestling at 138 pounds, did not place.
