Emmetsburg's Junior Varsity E-Hawk boys opened their basketball season on Dec. 3 with a 43-34 setback at the hands of the Indians of Pocahontas Area.
The first half of action didn't see a lot of offense for the young E-Hawks, as they would trail 24-13 at the half-time break of the contest, and were only able to generate 21 points in the second half of play to end in the nine-point loss.
For Coach Phil Geelan's club, Wes Schultes would lead the offensive effort with his 12 points on the night. Cooper Hofstad came away with six points, and pulled down a half-dozen rebounds in the contest.
Austin Frerichs added five points, while Zach Anderson chipped in four points, but came away with five rebounds. Nick Grandstaff would also score four points in the effort and Christian Strohman added three points to the coffer for the E-Hawks.
Emmetsburg would connect on nine of 23 shooting from inside the arc and made just three of 10 tries from long-range. At the line, Emmetsburg made seven of eight attempts.
As a team, the young E-Hawks collected 21 rebounds and grabbed five steals, but committed 10 turnovers in the contest.
The JV squad continues play with Lakes Conference games tonight (Tuesday) in LeMars and on Friday night when they travel to Spencer.
