E-Hawk Wrestlers Split Dual, Finish Sixth At Eagle Grove

Emmetsburg's E-Hawk wrestlers earned a split in their first double dual of the season Thursday, defeating West Hancock but falling to Forest City. Then on Saturday, Coach Jared Pickett's E-Hawks earned a sixth place finish at the Eagle Grove Invitational to kick off a busy week of action on the mat.

In action on Thursday at Britt, the E-Hawks posted a 57-21 win over West Hancock to open the regular season.

Starting at 220 pounds, the E-Hawks forfeited and at 285, Pat Brennan lost a 6-2 decision. At 106, Tanner Lundgren earned a 2:15 win by fall and Carson Clark and Connor Crosgrove both received forfeit wins at 113 and 120 pounds respectively.

At 126, Dillon VanOosbree was pinned in 3:28 but a 132 Brett Steinkamp earned a 132 win by fall. Jas Jamison scored a 4:17 win by fall at 138 and at 145, Chris VanHeuvelen took a 4-3 decision win.

Caige Elbert earned a win by forfeit at 152 but at 160, Gage Jamison was pinned in 1:05. Joe Schmidt at 170 and Wes Brennan at 182 both received wins by forfeit and Robert Nelson ended the dual with a 2:43 win by fall in the 195 pound match for the 57-21 final score.

Against Forest City, the E-Hawks fell by a 58-18 tally.

Pat Brennan was pinned in :17 of the heavyweight match and at 106 pounds, Tanner Lundgren lost a 6-0 decision to Andrew Mettrey.

Carson Clark was pinned in :47 at 113 pounds but at 120, Connor Crosgrove earned a2:45 win by fall. Dillon VanOosbree would be pinned in 1:29 of the 126 pound match but at 132, Brett Steinkamp claimed a 3:56 win by fall.

Jas Jamison would come up short in a 13-2 Major Decision loss in the 138 pound match but at 145, Chris VanHeuvelen came away with a 5:19 win by fall.

Caige Elbert was pinned in 3:12 of the 152 pound match and at 160, Gage Jamison was pinned in 3:13. Joe Schmidt would be pinned in 1:15 of the 170 pound match before the E-Hawks forfeited at 182. Robert Nelson would battle hard in a 4-2 decision loss at 195 before the E-was forfeited at 220 to end the dual in the 58-18 loss.

Eagle Grove Tourney

On Saturday, the E-Hawks hit the mats for the first tournament of the season at the Eagle Grove Invitational, where they would finishs sixth in the team standings. Ballard would edge Fort Dodge for the team title on Saturday at the historic tournament.

Tanner Lundgren would finish as the runner-up at 106 pounds for Emmetsburg on the day. Lundgren opened his tournament with a 1:03 win by fall over Austin Cooksen of Ankeny, and then pinned Jed Miller of the JV?Allstars in 1:13 to earn a finals match against Tristan Lara of Fort Dodge. In the final, Lara would jump out to an 8-2 lead after the first period and a 10-3 advantage after two periods before pinning Lundgren in 4:33 of the match to force the young E-Hawk to settle for second place.

Emmetsburg would get a fourth place finish from Robert Nelson in action at 195 pounds on the day. Nelson would come up a point short in his first round match with Elliott Ahrens of the JV?Allstars, falling 10-9, but drew a bye in the consolation quarterfinals before scoring a 5-2 decision victory over Bailey Kothe of Clarion-Goldfield in the Consolation semi-finals.

Meeting Tyler Kyhl of Ballard in the Consolation final, Nelson trailed 2-0 after one period and 4-1 after the second period, but fought off a pin only to end up fourth in a 9-2 decision loss.

The E-Hawks would get three fifth place finishes and five sixth place finishes in the rest of the weight classes.

At 113 pounds, Carson Clark was pinned in 1:11 of the first round by Erik Birnbaum of Fort Dodge, but got a bye in the next match. Against Lucas Lineman of Clarion-Goldfield, Clark was pinned in3:28 and then wrestled John Fleener of Ballard for fifth place, where he scored the 1:28 win by fall for fifth.

Dillon VanOosbree would be pinned in 1:29 of his opening round match with Lance Howlett of Ballard and then drew a bye before being pinned in 2:50 by Nick Ganzeveld of Fort Dodge. Against Ray Aguilar of Algona, VanOosbree would score a 13-1 Major Decision victory to claim his fifth place finish.

At 138 pounds, Jas Jamison scored a 3:54 win by fall over Rachel Watters of the JV?Allstars in the opening round, but was pinned in 1:17 by Taylor Lehman of Clarion-Goldfield. Against Cory Alexander of Fort Dodge, Jamison would wrestle to a 3-3 tie after regulation, but was taken down in the sudden death period to lose 5-3. Meeting Rachel Watters in the fifth place match, Jamison would score a 7-6 decision to earn the fifth place finish.

Connor Crosgrove would tie Parker Slagle of Eagle Grove 4-4 at the end of reg-ulation, but was pinned in the sudden death period in 6:26. After a bye round, Crosgrove would be pinned in :48 by Tim Gailey of the JV?Allstars. For the fifth place match, Crosgrove was paired up against his first-round opponent, Parker Slagle of Eagle Grove, but this time, Slagle earned a 21-4 Major Decision win over the E-Hawk, giving Crosgrove the sixth place finish.

At 132 pounds, newcomer Kyle Kassel was pinned in :28 by Joel Haberman of Clarion-Goldfield to open the day, but got a bye in the next round. Meeting Carlos Lobatto of Eagle Grove, Kassel would be pinned in 3:03 of the match, and in the fifth place match, Kassel was pinned in 1:27 by Kenyon Cook of Fort Dodge to finish sixth.

Caige Elbert fell victim to a 1:15 fall at the hands of Fort Dodge's Jonah Egli in the opening round of action, and also received a bye in the following round. In the consolation semi-final, Elbert would end up losing a 4-1 decision to Dakota Neer of Ankeny and in the fifth place match, the E-Hawk wrestler would be pinned by Mark Goldberg of Ballard in :34 to settle for sixth place.

At 160 pounds, Gage Jamison would run afoul of Josh Strohman of Algona and was pinned in 3:06 of the first round match. Jamison then met Ben Powers of the JV Allstars in the Consolation quarterfinals, and won a 7-2 decision to advance to the consolation semis, where he wrestled Chris Blythe of Ankeny. Blythe would score a 1:41 win by fall over the young E-Hawk, who met Andrew Rasmussen of Ballard in the fifth place match, where he was pinned in :35 to finish sixth.

For Joe Schmidt at 170 pounds, the day started by being pinned in :45 by Tyler Frizers of Algona. After receiving a bye, Schmidt wrestled Will May of Ballard, and was the victim of a 1:06 falling the match. Wrestling Jordan Lee of Clarion-Goldfield in the fifth place match, Schmidt was pinned in :40 to finish in sixth place.

Chris VanHeuvelen, wrestling at 145 pounds for the E-Hawks, had to forfeit his first-round match to Derek Garman of Algona as he was participating in Jazz Band Contest at Webster City.

In the Consolation quarterfinal, VanHeuvelen was called to wrestle Brady Brott of Clarion-Goldfield, and was pinned in 1:45 but the match was wrestled in error and would not count.

VanHeuvelen would wrestle Dylan Huse of the JV Allstars wand was pinned in 3:14 to be eliminated from the placement round.
