LEMARS - Steady play by the Emmetsburg Lady E-Hawks led to a 42-33 Lakes Conference opening victory over LeMars Tuesday night. The win improves Emmetsburg to 1-0 in the league and 1-1 on the season.
Paced by junior Alexa Naig, the Lady E-Hawks battled LeMars point-for-point in the opening quarter, but took a single-digit, 12-11 lead to start the second quarter. Gaining a bit of breathing room in the second quarter, Emmetsburg was able to take a 24-19 lead at the intermission.
The defense stepped up in the third quarter for the Lady E-Hawks, as they held LeMars to just five points in the quarter for a 31-24 lead and in the final quarter, both teams would score nine points each as Emmetsburg held on to take the nine-point, 42-33 victory.
For the Lady E-Hawks, Alexa Naig led all scorers with 15 points in the contest. Ashton Connelly followed with 14 points, while Tegan Olson chipped in six points. Bailey Naig would come away with four points, while Hadley Egland added two points and Michaela Rehm chipped in a free throw.
Emmetsburg continues Lakes Conference play Friday evening with the short road trip west to take on the Tigers of Spencer.
