Funeral service for Jerry C. Steffen of Emmetsburg was held Monday, Jan. 6, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. The Rev. Nicholas Thackery officiated.
Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg. The Joyce Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge of arrangements.
Jerry C. Steffen was born April 7, 1938, in Peterson, to Harold and Ruby (Clifton) Steffen. He graduated from Peterson High School in 1956. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy, and he served four years before being honorably discharged in May of 1960.
Jerry married his high school sweetheart, Donna Westphalen, on May 22, 1957 in Royal. Upon returning from the service, he worked a few different jobs, and in 1965, he began his career with the United Parcel Service where he was cited for his 31 years of loyal service and contributions to UPS.
Jerry was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family, friends and his early morning coffee group. Jerry cherished his church and faith; he was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg.
On Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, Jerry passed away at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City. He was 75.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Donna; four children: Jerry W. (Carol) of Forest City, Jon (Beth) of Norco, CA, Jill (Dan) Kliegl of Emmetsburg, and Janelle Buss of Forest City; nine grandchildren: Todd, Jeremy, Katherine, Brian, Aaron, Nathan, Joshua, Jessica and Jason; and seven great-grandchildren: Shaylee, Braden, Austin, Colton, Gavin, Raul, Jr. and Adriana. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Polly and Mary; and a brother-in-law, Darrell.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Ruby; two brothers: Jim and Tom; and a sister, Judy Herrin.
