The Emmetsburg High School Vocal Music Department will host the 2014 Iowa High School Music Association State Show Choir Contest Monday, Feb. 3, at Emmetsburg High School. A total of 14 show choirs from various classes will perform in the EHS Auditorium, starting at 3 p.m.
During the Iowa High School Music Association contests, each show choir performs for a panel of judges selected by the IHSMA, who will evaluate the performance, as well as offer suggestions for improvement and compliments to each performing group. The judges then assign a divisional rating from I, for a Superior performance, to a V or poor performance, based on a calculation of points for each group's performance.
Performances for the show choirs will begin at 3:00 in the high school auditorium, with Emmetsburg's two show choirs, "High Voltage" and "Black and Gold" both participating in the contest. Emmetsburg's Black and Gold Show Choir will perform for the judges at 5:40 p.m. and the "High Voltage" Show Choir will perform at 8:25 p.m.
The public is invited to come and spend the afternoon and evening enjoying the sounds and sights of northwest Iowa area show choirs. There is a small admission fee set by the IHSMA.
