DES?MOINES - Cody Thompson of Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire earned a sixth place finish at the 2014 Iowa State Wrestling Championships this past weekend in Des Moines. The Titans' junior 285-pounder would win three matches during his appearances in the Class 1A action on the mats of Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
Thompson started his state tournament appearance Thursday night in Class 1A witha match against Tyler Yankovic of Maquoketa Valley-Delhi, but struggled to get an offense going and lost the opening match by a 4-1 decision.
Wrestling back to remain alive in the tournament later that evening, Thompson met Dawson Dahlke of Collins-Maxwell-Baxter and needed just :08 to score a win by fall to advance to Friday's consolation rounds.

On Friday afternoon, Thompson wrestled Tim Butcher of Manson Northwest Webster and earned a 7-4 decision victory to continue on to the consolation quarterfinals, where he would earn a 4-2 decision win over Garrett Johnson of Panora-Panorama on Friday night.
Saturday's consolation semi-finals saw Thompson wrestle Ryley Howell of Wapello , but Thompson would lose a 7-1 decision in the match, dropping him to the fifth place consolation match, where he wrestled Luke Kuennen of Turkey Valley-Jackson Junction. Thompson would come up short in a 4-2 decision to earn the sixth place finish in the 285 pound weight class to finish off the Titans' season.
