SPENCER It was a solid performance by the Lady Wolverines of West Bend-Mallard/Gilmore City-Brad -gate on Friday at the Clay Central-Everly Relays in Spencer. With five first place finishes, the Lady Wolverines ended up in third place overall in the team standings, finishing behind North Union and Laurens-Marathon.
Lauren Thatcher picked up a championship in the 3000 meter run as she finished with a time of 13:13.61. Madelynn Gehrt would also pick up a championship in the 400 meter dash, as she finished in :63.77 for the top placing. Anna Zaugg also earned a first place finish, as she bested the field in the 800 meter run with her time of 2:37.56.
The 4x800 relay squad, comprised of Madelynn Gehrt, Portlind Schmidt, Ashley Schmidt and Anna Zaugg won their event with a 10:44.01 clocking and the 4x400 relay, with Ashley Schmidt, Portlind Schmidt, Lauren Link and Anna Zaugg turned in a time of 4:35.10 to place first in their race.
Earning a second place finish was Lauren Thatcher in the 1500 meter run with a time of 6:04.01, and the Lady Wolverines' Sprint Medley Relay, with Liz Gehrt, Portlind Schmidt, Harrison Schmidt and Taylor Fogarty, finished second with at time of 2:08.20.
Rounding out the placings for West Bend-Mallard /Gilmore City-Bradgate on Friday was Harrison Schmidt with a :14.60 clocking in the 100 meter dash, good for a fifth place finish, and Ashley Schmidt, who placed fifth in the 200 meter dash with a time of :29.36.
"It was a nice night for an early season track meet," noted WBM/GCB Coach Eldon McKimmey. "We share a couple of girls with the golf team, and they went with the golf team on Friday, so we started with a short squad. Lauren Link came over after she finished playing and was able to run a leg in the winning 4x400 relay. The girls competed hard to finish with a third place team score."
