Merle L. Dallam 1920-2014

Funeral service for Merle L. Dallam of Emmetsburg will be held Saturday, April 26, at 10:30 a.m. at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg.

Inurnment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg. Military rites will be presented at the grave site by members of V.F.W. Post #2295, Emmetsburg.

Visitation is Friday, April 25, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg.

Merle L. Dallam, 93, of Emmetsburg, passed away peacefully in his sleep Monday, April 21, 2014 at Lakeside Lutheran Home.

Merle was born July 20, 1920, to Howard and Creta (Kentfield) Dallam, and raised in Waukee. On March 7, 1942, just before he went off to the war in Europe, he married his high school sweetheart, Ida Ferrari, also of Waukee. He spent the next three years in North Africa, Germany and England fighting for the freedoms we all enjoy today.

After the war, and for the next 50 years, Merle and Ida farmed and raised a family in this Emmetsburg community. He was a devoted husband and father. A well respected and responsible farmer, he left an inheritance greatly appreci- ated by his children. He will be greatly missed by many in this farming community.

Merle is survived by his daughter, Diane Dallam Cattrysse, of Mankato, MN, his son, Michael M. Dallam and wife, Sherry of Flagstaff, AZ, five grandchildren, Sherry Cattrysse Ziebarth (Tom), Katherine Cattrysse of Minneapolis, MN, William Cattrysse of Mound, MN, Heather Dallam Smith (Matt), Haley Dallam Nelson (Adam), four great grandchildren and a special niece Donna Steffen of Apple Valley, MN. Merle was preceded in death by his wife, parents, one sister and two brothers.
