May Day Community RAGBRAI Information and Volunteer Meeting

May Day! May Day! Volunteers are needed to host RAGBRAI in Emmetsburg this summer.

A meeting offering information and volunteer sign-up will be held Thursday, May 1, at the Emmetsburg High School Auditorium at 7 p.m.

RAGBRAI's overnight visit to Emmetsburg on July 21 is hosted by Emmetsburg Chamber of Commerce with a whole lot of volunteers.

Committee chairs will be on hand to explain their groups and how many volunteers they need. The committees include:

Housing, Campgrounds, Showers, Sanitation &?Recycling, and Volunteers

Publicity, Hospitality, Communications, Information Center, and Web &?Social Media

Public Safety, Law Enforcement, Medical, Ride Right and Transportation.

"This is a great opportunity to get involved," said Chamber Director Deb Hite. "We are all excited about Emmetsburg being an overnight host for thousands of bicycle riders from all over the nation. This is our opportunity to show off our community and Five Island Lake to all of our guests."

Emmetsburg residents are encouraged to sign up to assist on any of the committees at the May 1 meeting.

Vendor packets will be available at the meeting, complete with applications and rules.

There will also be a time for questions and answers.

Veteran RAGBRAI?riders Greg and Steve Hoyman will share some of their experiences from years of riding from the Missouri to the Mississippi.

"Celebrating Emmetsburg's Irish Heritage once this year is just not enough," said Deb Hite. "We are going to extend our Irish hospitality to all of the riders on RAGBRAI this summer."

Emmetsburg RAGBRAI t-shirts will also be available at the May 1 meeting at the high school. These green shirts will be Emmetsburg shoppers' best friend, beginning Friday, May 2.

Emmetsburg businesses are participating in "Get Lucky T-Shirt Fridays" promotion. Shoppers wearing their green RAGBRAI shirts on Friday can receive special discounts and deals at participating businesses.

Participating businesses, identified by a sign in their window, include:?Cornerstone Grill & Pub, A&W, Hometown Convenience, E-Pride Office, ETC, Pizza Ranch, Hardware Hank, Main Street Memories Mall, A Heavenly Celebration, Wallace's Water Conditioning, Wentzel's True Value, Palo Alto County Health System Gift Shop, Wild Rose Iowa Store, Second Hand Thrift and Emmetsburg Care Center. Additional businesses will be joining the promotion.

"It's an exciting week as plans for RAGBRAI continue," said Deb Hite. "We are anxious to get a lot more community residents involved in this great opportunity to showcase Emmetsburg this summer."
