The Palo Alto County Conservation Board is again sponsoring their annual Wings & Wetlands Weekend on Saturday and Sunday, May 10 and 11.

Saturday begins with a Wetland Tour with Ducks Unlimited Biologists. Meet at 9 a.m. the Lost Island Nature Center for a short presentation followed by car pooling to project sites. Appropriate for adults.

The Swan Release at 11 a.m. will take place at Lost Island Marsh, one half mile north of the Huston Park entrance on 350th Avenue. See two live swans up close and learn about the success of this statewide reintroduction program.

At 1 pm, the D.U. Greenwings program begins. Participants will be divided into smaller groups to take part in activities like a BB shoot, fire and water, decoys and dogs, building a Wood Duck house, duck identification and a scavenger hunt.

Registration is required by calling the Nature Center at 712-837-4866. Those registering by May 1 will receive a free t-shirt.

This afternoon event is co-sponsored by the Palo Alto Sportsmans Ducks Unlimited Chapter and Pro Cooperative.

On Sunday, May 11, at 8 am, join us for a bird walk. Local birder Lee Schoenewe will be leading a walk on the trails at Lost Island-Huston Park, north of Ruthven. Meet at the Lost Island Nature Center for coffee, juice and rolls before we head down the trail.
