Emmetsburg Golf Squads Enjoy Success Over Past Weekend

The girls and boys golf teams from Emmetsburg High School came up big in meets golfed over the past weekend.

On Friday, April 25, the Lady E-Hawk golfers traveled to Lake Creek Country Club at Storm Lake for a Lakes Conference triangular with Spirit Lake and Storm Lake. Despite missing players due to a school trip, the Lady E-Hawks came away with a thrilling one-stroke victory. Emmetsburg carded a team score of 211, while Storm?Lake Finished with a 212 and Spirit Lake finished with a 239 stroke total.

Emmetsburg's Ashton Connelly earned the meet medalist honors with her round of 45. Following Connelly for the Lady E-Hawks were Katie Ruiz and Allison Freeman, as both girls shot rounds of 55. Taylor Knight would turn in a round of 56, while Sarah Pugh shot a 60 and Laura Moser carded a 61 to round out Emmetsburg's efforts.

For Emmetsburg's E-Hawks, an appearance at the Spirit Lake Invitational Tournament on Saturday resulted in the E-Hawks placing third overall in the large school division.

The E-Hawks shot a 342 team score to follow Spencer Gold with a 327 and Spirit Lake Red with a 333. After Emmetsburg came Estherville Lincoln Central with their total of 349 and Okoboji, who shot a 371 total.

Mike Myers continued his solid play this season, as he earned runner-up medalist honors on the day with his rounds of 40 and 38 for a 78 stroke total.

Luke Jackson would card rounds of 43 and 39 on the day to tally an 82, while Clayton Freeman recorded scores of 41 and 45 to tally an 86.

Nate Scrike would shoot rounds of 48 and 48 over the Brooks National Course for a total of 96, while Matt Kirbie came away with rounds of 54 and 55 to tally a 109 and Kylie Hofer added rounds of 55 and 57 to add up to a 112 for the E-Hawks.

"Emmetsburg played well on another very tough day at Brooks Golf Course in Okoboji," noted E-Hawk Head Coach Kort Freeman. "A couple of the younger guys had the opportunity to step up and get some varsity experience for us and they did a good job. It was also good to see Mike Myers stepping up again, as he played very well for runner up honors."

The E-Hawks will play the County Meet this Friday at Graettinger.
