Thinclads Earn State Track Qualifications

MANSON - Despite less than favorable conditions at Thursday's Class 2A Regional/District Track Meet, Emmetsburg will be sending four entries to the 2014 State Track Championships later this week in Des Moines. The Lady E-Hawks will send their Shuttle Hurdle Relay squad, while the E-Hawks will also send their Shuttle Hurdle Relay, and entries in the 200 meter dash and 110 high hurdles.

The Lady E-Hawks Shuttle Hurdle foursome of Helena Fantz, Bailey Naig, Alexa Naig and Hadley Egland, finished fourth with a time of 1:10.78, and earned one of eight at-large qualifications for the state meet. For the E-Hawks, the boys Shuttle Hurdle of Brandon Elbert, Zach Anderson, Jacob Kibbie and Allen Jensen, earned a third place finish with a 1:00.52 and also earned one of the eight at-large qualifications for the state meet.

Allen Jensen would win the 110 meter high hurdles with a time of :15.77 to automatically qualify, and then finished second in the 200 meter dash with a :23.87 clocking to earn the automatic bid to state to close out the Emmetsburg qualifiers.

For the Lady E-Hawks, there were several near-misses on Thursday, including Hadley Egland in the 100 meter hurdles, as she finished third with a :17.28 and Kayla Joyce in the discus, where she placed third with a throw of 103'.

Tara Harris earned fourth place finishes in the 3200 meter run in 12:09.68 and the 1500 meter run in 5:45.32.

Mikki Mundus would finish the 200 meter dash in :28.80, but finished fifth, while Helena Fantz took fifth in the 100 hurdles with a :17.67 clocking and Tegan Olson earned fifth in the discus, throwing 97'4".

Taylor Reimer placed sixth in the 800 meter run in a time of 2:43.36 and the girls 4x200 relay, with Mikki Mundus, Bailey Naig, Emily Bonnstetter and Alexa Naig, took fifth in 1:55.38, while the 4x800 relay, with Jordan Hoyman, Cierra McAllister, Kate Jackson and Taylor Reimer, also finished fifth in 11:29.68.

The 4x100 relay, with Alexa Naig, Helena Fantz, Hadley Egland and Mikki Mundus finished sixth in :55.32, while Rachel Ruddy finished eighth in the 100 meter dash with a :14.46 effort. Emily Bonnstetter would place 15th in the 100 with her time of :15.15.

Rachel Ruddy placed eighth in the long jump with a leap of 14'9'25" and Shelby Loomis was 14th with a jump of 13'2.75". Tegan Olson finished ninth in the shot put, throwing 31'7.25" and Natalie Ruiz was eighth in the shot with her throw of 31'4.75".

The Distance Medley of Sarah Simington, Kiersten Duhn, Shelby Loomis and Madeleine Mueller finished ninth in a time of 5:09.57, while the Sprint Medley squad of Hadley Egland, Mikki Mundus, Alexa Naig and Bailey Naig finished tenth in 2:05.29.

For the E-Hawks, Nick Grandstaff finished fifth in the 3200 meter run with a time of 11:00.90 and 16th in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:23.35. The 4x100 relay, with Aaron Bird, Shay Mortenson, Jacob Kibbie and Allen Jensen placed fifth with a time of :46.06, while the Distance Medley, with Aaron Bird, Wes Schultes, Shay Mortenson and Wes Brennan finished with a 3:59.65 for sixth place.

Brandon Elbert placed eighth in the 110 high hurdles with an :18.18 effort, while Alex DeFord took 11th place in the 100 meter dash in :12.70 and Aaron Bird finished with a :13.10 effort for 20th place.

Wes Schutles finished 19th in the 200 meter dash with a time of :27.61 and in the 400 meter dash, Aaron Hutchison was 17th with his time of 1:02.58.

Nick Chapman earned 11th place in the discus, throwing 107'11" and Nick Jackson placed 17th in the discus with his throw of 95'3". In the shot put, Nick Jackson earned 14th place with a heave of 37'9.5" and Pat Brennan would place 17th with a throw of 36'.5". Dalton Connelly would place 20th in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.10.
