Girls and boys track competitors from the Emmetsburg Middle School competed on May 10 at the IATC?Mike Henderson Middle School Track Meet in Waukee.
The Emmetsburg Middle School 8th grade girls track team tied for 8th place out of a field of 40 small schools with 20 points For Emmetsburg, Emily Berkland finished third in the Discus out of 26 throwers in small school division. Natalie Kleigl earned eighth place in the 100 meter hurdles out of 32 hurdlers in small school division
The 1600 Medley Relay, with Rachel Berkland, Courtney Wurzer, Natalie Kliegl and Mary Nelson placed fourth with a 4:55.8 clocking and the 800 Medley Relay, with Maggie Jackson, Courtney Wurzer, Mary Nelson and Rachel Berkland finished second with a time of 2:07.6.
The seventh grade boys finished fifth out of16 teams while the eighth grade came away with fourth place out of 25 teams.
For the seventh graders, the Shuttle hurdle team, Clayton Swanson, Connor Joyce, Aiden Leuer, and Weston Fantz won with a 1:15.89 effort. The Distance Medley Relay, with Adam Deitering, Cruz Bowman, Fantz, and Spencer Griffin, took second with their best time of 4:39.92.
In the 1600 meter run, Cruz Bowman ran a personal best of 5:43.44 and finished third. Connor Joyce finished third with a :17.04 and Clayton Swanson finished fourth in :17.39 in the 100 meter hurdles, both earning personal best times. Connor Joyce also ran the 200 hurdles and finished fifth in :33.27.
The 4x400 relay, with Adam Deitering, Clayton Swanson, Spencer Griffin and Weston Fantz, earned a third place finish with their time of 4:45.91.
For the Emmetsburg Eighth graders, the shuttle hurdle team of Jackson Knight, Christian Nichols, Dylan Kibbie and Jordan Wiley earned third place with their best time of 1:10.80.
Blake VerMulm earned fourth place in the 400 meter run with a personal best time of 59.31 and also finished second in the 200 meter run with another personal best of :25.74.
Jackson Knight finished third in the 100 hurdles with a :17.45 for his best outing, and Dylan Kibbie finished fifth with a best ever mark of :18.44.
Jordan Wiley would earn a gold medal for winning the 200 meter hurdles with his time of :27.58.
Zach Mason ran the 1600 meter run in a personal best of 5:42.58 to finish in sixth place, while Christian Nichols ran in the 800 meter run and finished seventh in a time of 2:33.94, a personal best for him.
Trey Truog competed in the shot put, throwing 35'4.5" to finish tenth and then threw the discus 97'11", which earned a seventh place finish.
