o the Editor:
As I was pondering the observance of Memorial Day, something came to light.
My father, an uncle and many family friends proudly served their country to protect an idea that was put to pen almost 250 years ago. This point was reinterated by Abraham Lincoln at the Gettysburg Address: "that a government of the people, by the people, for the people shall not perish from the earth." Over the course of the past year, there have been several issues at all levels of government that have caused turmoil.
In summation, I ask, that if you are not satisfied with the way things are going in your government at any level, honor these people who served to protect the rights given to us so long ago, and sometimes taken for granted, by exercising your right to vote for the candidate of your choice.
