Memorial service for Elmer Leroy Williams of Spencer will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, Thursday, June 12, at Faith Lutheran Church in Spencer. Pastor Larry Neiderhiser, Spencer Family Church, will officiate.
Inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Spencer. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Elmer Leroy Williams, son of Clyde and Carol (Birchard) Williams, was born Feb. 29, 1952 in Spencer. He graduated from Spencer High School in 1970. Following graduation, Elmer was employed at Superior Manufacturing.
On May 9, 1971, Elmer was united in marriage to Joy Lynn Lewis in Curlew. To this union two children were born. Elmer went to work at Riverside Cemetery and was employed with the Spencer street department, where he worked until his retirement at the age of 55. During the week of the Spencer Fair, Elmer worked on the barn crew for 27 years. After his retirement, he did seasonal work at the fair grounds.
Elmer was a member of the Spencer Family Church where he was active in the men's group. He was also a member of the Little League Board.
Elmer passed away Sunday, June 8, 2014 at his home in Spencer, at the age of 62. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; sister; brother; brother-in-law; sister-in-law; and a nephew.
He is survived by his children, Allen Williams (Sara) of Spencer and Clyde Williams (Trista) of Spencer; three grandchildren; two sisters-in-law.
