Emmetsburg's Lady E-Hawks continued to play the role of the spoiler in the Lakes Conference softball race on Monday night as they handed LeMars their first loss of the season and their first Conference loss since 2012 in a 6-3 decision. The win gave Emmetsburg a 3-5 mark in the league and 8-9 overall.
Emmetsburg would strike quickly after LeMars stranded a runner in the first. A leadoff walk of Alexa Naig and a single by Sarah Simington would be followed by two outs before Naig came home off a wild pitch and a single from Ashton Connelly scored Simington for a 2-0 lead at the end of the first.
LeMars would strand a runner again in the second and the Lady E-Hawks struck again, as Ashley Overberg hit a single with two outs and then went to second on a passed ball before a throwdown attempt at second sailed high, allowing the speedster to take third and beat out a throw home to score for a 3-0 lead.

The Bulldogs stranded another runner in the top of the third, but Emmetsburg would go down in order in their at-bat. LeMars would get a double in the fourth, but left the runner waiting again. The Lady E-Hawks got a leadoff single from Ashton Connelly, and her courtesy runner, Bailey Naig, would come around to score off a passed ball for a 4-0 advantage when the inning ended.
In the top of the fifth, LeMars found some offense, as a pair of Emmetsburg errors put two runners on base before a double allowed the runs to score. The Lady E-Hawks would go down in order for the second straight inning as the score had narrowed to 4-2.
LeMars would strand a runner in the sixth, but the Lady E-Hawk offense came back to life in the bottom of the frame. Tegan Olson uncorked a leadoff double and scored off Michaela Rehm's single. An error put Ashton Connelly on base before a strikeout and Kate Jackson would then step up and pound an RBI?single to score Rehm, but courtesy runner Bailey Naig and Jackson would be left looking for a way home when the at-bat ended.
Trailing 6-2 in the top of the seventh, LeMars got a leadoff walk before two strikeouts were rung up, but an error would follow before a double brought home a run, leaving the tying run at second. But, Emmetsburg's defense rose to the challenge as third baseman Tegan Olson ended the game with a foul tip fly ball for the upset win.
Ashton Connelly went the distance in the circle for the win, allowing three runs, two earned, off six hits with one walk and nine strikeouts.
For Emmetsburg, Tegan Olson had a double, while Ashton Connelly had two hits. Kate Jackson, Michaela Rehm and Sarah Simington all had hits.
