Celebrate The Fourth of July

Palo Alto County residents will be cerebrating the Fourth of July holiday this weekend. With the holiday on Friday, that gives everyone three fun-filled days.

Emmetsburg: FUEL?(Fellowship Uniting Emerging Leaders) and members of VFW ?Post #2295 have planned Fun on the Fourth at Soper Park, on the shores of Five Island Lake.

Games for kids will begin at 9 a.m., hosted by members of VFW Post #2295. Big wheel races for the little ones, and foot races and balloon toss for kids of all ages will kick off the day. Emmetsburg Care Center will provide drink boxes for children participating in the games.

Inflatables will be set up at the park for children to play in after the games.

Bag Toss Tournament and Sand Volleyball Tournament begin after the kids games, around 10 a.m. Entry fee for the Bags Tourney is $5 per person. Entry fee for Volley ball is $30 per team. Sign up at the Chamber Office.

The VFW Color Guard will present the colors and offer a salute at 1 p.m. at Soper Park. Mayor Myrna Heddinger will present her Mayoral Address. The Community Band will play its final concert of the summer.

Fireworks will begin at dusk, shot off over Five Island Lake. Thanks is given to the city and citizens of Emmetsburg who have contributed to make this happen.

Cylinder: The games will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Cylinder Park. Palo Alto County Cattlemen will be grilling hamburgers, brats and hot dogs. Free watermelon will be served.

A band will play at the park until the fireworks begin at dusk.

West Bend: A four-day celebration is planned, with activities July 3, 4, 5 and 6.

FFA Alumni Tractor Ride is Thursday, July 3, with registration at 7 a.m. The day continues with Palo Alo County Cattlemen barbecue from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Robert Cast Memorial Shelter House. Little League games begin at 6 p.m.

The band Road Hard will provide music at the street dance at 9 p.m. on Main Street.

Saturday, July 5, is filled with activities from morning to night. The 5K Walk/Run begins at 8:30 a.m.

The Fourth of July Parade is Saturday morning. Parade line-up begins at 9:30 a.m., with judging at 10 a.m. The parade itself begins at 11 a.m. Following the parade, food stands are open on the West Bend-Mallard school grounds.

Carnival games and the Fern Valley 4-H?Petting Zoo will be from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Inflatable rides and Bingo are from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.

West Bend Fire Department will host water fights at 2:30 p.m.

Liberty Games begin at 3:30 p.m. on the school grounds.

Pedal Tractor Pulls are at 5 p.m. Announcement of Cow Pie Bingo winners is at 6:20 p.m. and the Auction begins at 6:30 p.m.

Mindy's Miles Bike Give-Away is at 8 p.m.

The Tonic Solo-Fa Concert begins at 8:30 p.m., followed by fireworks.

Activities held throughout the day Saturday include West Bend Ford's Corn Box and free swimming at the West Bend swimming pool.

The weekend concludes with the Chamber Breakfast Sunday, July 6, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. Chris Cakes will be at the Community Center.
