Lady E-Hawks Earn Wins In County Matchups

Emmetsburg's Lady E-Hawks meet their in-county peers on the softball diamond at the end of last week and claimed a pair of victories over West Bend-Mallard/Gilmore City-Bradgate on Thursday and Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire on Friday evening.

Thursday evening the Lady E-Hawks hosted the Lady Wolverines and claimed a 5-0 win.

The Lady Wolverines would get a hit from Lauren Link in the first inning, but left her stranded. Emmetsburg would get a lead off walk for Alexa Naig in their half of the first, but also left her stranded to end the first inning.

WBM/GCB would go down in order in the second, but Emmetsburg would get a run in the bottom of the inning. Bailee Garrelts was walked and courtesy runner Natalie Kliegl came home off a fielders' choice on Kate Jackson's at bat for a 1-0 lead after Jackson was stranded to end the inning.

Trailing 1-0 in the third, the Lady Wolverines would get a single from Taylor Fogarty, but courtesy runner Jessica Morey was put out at second on Harrison Schmidt's fielders' choice. Back-to-back errors by Emmetsburg put Lauren Link and Cassie Gearhart on base to load the bases, but the threat ended with a fly out.

Emmetsburg would get a walk for Tegan Olson in the bottom of the third but no more to end the inning.

In the top of the fourth, WBM/GCB went down in order. The Lady E-Hawks got a leadoff walk for Ashton Connelly, who moved to third off a double by Bailee Garrelts. Connelly would score the run off a sac fly by Kate Jackson, but courtesy runner Natalie Kliegl was called out for leaving early for the second out. An error put Hali Noll on base, but her courtesy runner, Bailey Naig was left waiting when the inning ended.

Now trailing 2-0, the Lady Wolverines would get a one out single from Taylor Fogarty, and a two-out single from Lauren Link, but the two runners were left waiting when the at-bat ended.

Emmetsburg came up and went down two outs, but got five straight singles from Tegan Olson, Michaela Rehm, Ashton Connelly, Bailee Garrelts and Kate Jackson to push four runs over the plate before courtesy runner Natalie Kliegl and Jackson were left waiting.

The two teams traded outs in the sixth inning and in the seventh, the Lady Wolverines would be retired in order to end the game.

Taylor Fogarty was tagged for the loss, going six innings and giving up five runs, four earned, off six hits with four walks and two strikeouts. Emmetsburg's Hali Noll got the win, going seven innings and giving up four hits with one walk and six strikeouts.

For the Lady Wolverines, Lauren Link and Taylor Fogarty both had two hits each, while Emmetsburg got a double and single form Bailee Garrelts, while Kate Jackson, Ashton Connelly, Michaela Rehm and Tegan Olson all had hits.

Friday evening the Lady E-Hawks journeyed to Ruthven to take on Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire and earned a 9-1 win.

The Lady E-Hawks opened the game with a leadoff single by Alexa Naig, who would come around to score before Michaela Rehm was walked, but left waiting.

The Titans would get a nice single from Daisy Jordan, but she was left waiting when the inning ended.

Emmetsburg went down in order in the top of the second, but the Titans led off with a single from Morgan McGrauth, who would come around to score the tying run off a passed ball before the next three Titans were put out in order.

In the top of the third, Emmetsburg went down in order again, but the favor was returned to the Titans as they went down in order aw well to end the inning.

The fourth inning began with the Lady E-Hawks' Michaela Rehm getting a leadoff single. An error put Ashton Connelly on base and allowed Rehm to score her run before Bailee Garrelts rapped out a single. Courtesy runner Bailey Naig would take over and Connelly would plate a run off a sacrifice fly by Kate Jackson. A passed ball would allow Bailey Naig to score her run to give Emmetsburg a 4-1 lead when the at-bat ended.

GT/RA?would be retired in order in the bottom of the fourth inning to make the score 4-1.

To open the fifth, Alexa Naig blasted a double deep into left center field before Sarah Simington singled to score Naig's run.. Tegan Olson would send a ball deep to the left field fence, but Titan left fielder Sara Harris tracked the ball down for a big out. After a second out, Ashton Connelly rapped out an RBI?single to score Simington before the at-bat ended.

The Titans would be retired in order for the third consecutive inning, giving Emmetsburg a 6-1 advantage to start the sixth inning.

The Lady E-Hawks got a leadoff walk from Natalie Kliegl, but a fielders' choice eon Jenna Chapman's at-bat put Kliegl out at second. But with two outs, Alexa Naig singled and Sarah Simington walked to load the bases before Allison Freeman singled to score Chapman and Naig's runs. A single by Michaela Rehm allowed Simington to score her run, but a fielders' choice on Ashton Connelly's at-bat put Freeman out at third to end the at-bat.

The Titans would get a single from Brooke Hoffman with one out, but Hoffman would be stranded at third base when the inning ended.

In the seventh, Emmetsburg went down in order, but GT/RA would get a leadoff single from Sara Harris, which was followed by a single by Lauren Flaharty and a walk of Becky Noah to load the bases with one out, But Emmetsburg's defense got the final two outs to end the game.

For the Titans, Taylor Park took the loss as she pitched seven innings, giving up nine runs, six earned, off 10 hits, with three walks and one strikeout. Hali Noll took the win, going seven innings with one run off five hits with oe walk and eight strikeouts.

Emmetsburg got a double and three hits from Alexa Naig, while Michaela Rehm had two hits. Allison Freeman, Sarah Simington, Ashton Connelly and Bailee Garrelts all added hits.

For the Titans, Brooke Hoffman, Daisy Jordan, Sara Harris, Morgan McGrauth and Lauren Flaharty all came away with hits in the contest.
