HULL?- Emmetsburg's Lady E-Hawks edged Western Christian by a 4-3 tally in Lakes Conference action Wednesday night. The win improved Emmetsburg to 4-5 in the Lakes race.
Emmetsburg opened the first stranding Tegan Olson on base before Western Christian would take the lead with a run in the bottom of the first.
The Lady E-Hawks would get on the scoreboard in the top of the second as Ashton Connelly was walked to lead off and Bailee Garrelts got on off a fielders' choice. A walk of Hali Noll would load the bases before a single from Alexa Naig scored courtesy runner Bailey Naig and courtesy runner Natalie Kliegl would score as Sarah Simington walked, but three runners were stranded when the at-bat ended.
Western Christian would tie the game with a double and two base hits, but left three runners stranded to end the inning.
In the third, Emmetsburg would load the bases and leave three runners stranded, while the Wolfpack would also strand a runner to end the inning.
Emmetsburg led off the fourth with Alexa Naig hitting a double and coming around to score off Sarah Simington's sacrifice bunt. Tegan Olson and Michaela Rehm would get base hits, but were left stranded when the at-bat ended.
Western Christian would get a base hit in their half of the inning, but left their runner waiting to make the score 3-2.
Holding the slim one run lead to open the fifth inning, Emmetsburg went down two outs, but got a single from Ashley Overberg. But, Overberg would be thrown out at home on Alexa Naig's base hit to end the threat.
Western Christian would get a pair of walks, but left both runners on base when they were retired.
In the top of the sixth, Emmetsburg would get Sarah Simington on base off an error, but was put out on Tegan Olson's fielders' choice. A walk would be followed by a base hit by Ashton Connelly, and Olson would score her run off a sacrifice by Kate Jackson before the at-bat ended.
Western Christian went down in order in the sixth, and Emmetsburg would strand two runners in the top of the seventh before Western plated a run but left two runners on base to end the game.
Ashton Connelly got the win in seven innings, giving up three runs, two earned, off five hits with three walks and eight strikeouts.
Alexa Naig had a double and two singles, while Tegan Olson had two hits. Michaela Rehm, Ashton Connelly, Bailee Garrelts, Kate Jackson and Ashley Overberg all had hits.
