E-Hawks Fall To Spirit Lake Indians In League Matchup

SPIRIT?LAKE - A big sixth inning would propel the Spirit Lake Indians to a 10-4 win over Emmetsburg in Lakes Conference baseball action Monday night.

After stranding a runner in the first, Emmetsburg and Spirit Lake would trade outs the rest of the opening inning, and in the second, the E-Hawks left two players waiting on base. Spirit Lake would take a 1-0 lead after a single and error to end the frame.

Emmetsburg went down in order in the third, and the Indians tallied another run for a 2-0 advantage to start the fourth inning. The E-Hawks would get on the scoreboard when Greg Wesley got a leadoff single and scored off Jake Kibbie's RBI?single. before Kibbie and Max Dunlap were stranded. Spirit Lake would get the run back in their half of the fourth to hold a 3-1 lead to start the fifth frame.

Emmetsburg got a leadoff single from Aaron Bird and a single from Greg Wesley, and both would score when Zach Anderson sacrificed and Wes Schultes doubled, but was left waiting when the at-bat ended.

Spirit Lake would get a run in the bottom of the fifth to retake a 4-3 lead, but in the top of the sixth, the E-Hawks left Dillon VanOosbree stranded on base.

The Indians came up and [pushed six runs over the plate in the bottom of the sixth off a pair of doubles, a walk and sacrifice hits to make the score 10-3 to start the seventh inning.

The E-Hawks would get a leadoff single from Luke Jackson , who would come home to score off an error on Wes Schultes' at-bat, but Zach Anderson would be left at third and Jake Kibbie stood at second when the E-Hawks were retired to end the game.

Greg Wesley was charged with the loss, pitching five innings and giving up six runs, two earned, off six hits with three walks and six strikeouts. Luke Jackson relieved the final inning, giving up four runs, three earned, off four hits, with two walks.

For the E-Hawks, Wes Schultes had two doubles and a single, while Greg Wesley had two hits. Dillon VanOosbree, Aaron Bird, Luke Jackson, Jake Kibbie and Joe Jackson all added base hits in the effort.
