WHITTEMORE -- A Funeral Mass for Edna Waldschmidt was held Wednesday, July 23, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Whittemore. Father Victor Ramaeker officiated.
Interment was in St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Whittemore. Oakcrest Funeral Services of Whittemore was in charge of arrangements.
Edna Mae Waldschmidt was born June 21, 1917 at Corwith to John and Mary (Ohmes) Lickteig. Edna was schooled through the 8th grade at Corwith and graduated from Wesley High School in 1935. She then attended one year at Normal School in Cedar Falls. Edna taught school for two years and was married to Elliott Waldschmidt on Nov.22, 1938 in Wesley. The couple farmed at various communities before farming near Whittemore from 1952 until 1978, and moving into Cylinder on Thanksgiving Day, 1977.
Elliott died on Oct. 20, 1999 and Edna continued living on her own until age 93 when she moved into Assisted Living and later Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg. She died there on Friday, July 18, 2014, at the age of 97.
Edna enjoyed quilting, gardening, crossword puzzles and playing scrabble with her family. She had a great sense of humor right up to the end. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Whittemore, a member of the Rosary Society and a past officer of C.D.A.
Survivors include her children, Patricia Keith of St. Paul, MN, Joan Thompson of Bode, Rita and husband Ted Jennings of Ottertail, MN, John and wife Nancy of Faribault, MN, Bill and wife Mary of Randolph, MN, Bob and wife Marilyn of Waterville, MN, Dave and wife Dorie of Cylinder, Tom and wife Jeri of Mason City and Virginia and husband David Thom of Farmington, MN. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren and at least 28 great grandchildren as well as sister Ann Buettner of Cheshire, CT, sister Carmel Martin of Windslow, ME, brother Jerry Lickteig of Rockford, IL, sister Shirley Hanley of Dubuque, sisters-in-law, Luella (Toot) Lickteig of Algona and Patricia Waldschmidt of Armstrong.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Elliott, and four brothers, Urban, Jack, Dennis and Don and sons-in-law, Dr. Richard Thompson of Bode and Lew Keith of St. Paul, MN. and grandson Chris Waldschmidt of Mason City.
