Funeral service for Eugene W. Wegener was held Monday, Feb. 13, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Fairville. The Rev. David Bergquist officiated.
Interment was in St. Luke's Lutheran Cemetery, Fairville. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge of arrangements.
Eugene Walter Wegener, son of Walter and Lillian (Weisenhofer) Wegener, was born July 17, 1929 on their family farm near Ringsted. He received his education in Fenton.
On June 25, 1949, Eugene was united in marriage to Lois A. Zinnel in Emmetsburg. To this union two children were born.
Gene and Lois farmed in Palo Alto County for many years. They enjoyed attending dances and camping. They were active and devoted members of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Fairville where Gene served on various boards, including the trustees.
Gene moved to Redwood Falls, MN in 2002, where he made his home. He passed away Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017 at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, MN, at the age of 87. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lois; a daughter, Julie Wegener; and brother, John Wegener.
He is survived by a daughter, Linda Dawson (Don) of Corydon; a son, Jerod Wegener of Cylinder; six grandchildren, James Devin (Amy), Nicole Devin, Chase Hawk (Jessica), Sierra Wegener, Joshua Wegener and Wyatt Wegener; two great grandchildren, Justin Devin and Molly Devin; a sister, Joan Waite of Fenton; as well asmany other relatives and friends.
