MANSON - The basketball season ended last Monday night for the Wolverines of West Bend-Mallard/Gilmore City-Bradgate in a 60-38 loss to Manson Northwest Webster. For West Bend-Mallard/Gilmore City-Bradgate, the season ends with a mark of 1-20.
In the Class 1A District tournament opener, the Wolverines would get off to a somewhat slow start, falling behind Manson Northwest Webster by a 12-8 score after one quarter of play. In the second frame, the Wolverines' offense struggled, scoring just five points as the Cougars tallied 16 points to take a 28-13 advantage into the lockerroom at the intermission.
But the Wolverines weren't through by any means. In the third quarter, WBM/GCB came out and outscored Manson NWW 13-12 to make the score 40-26, but it was too little too late as the Cougars went on to earn the 60-38 final win.
For the Wolverines, Dan Riesenberg led the offense with 13 points, while Jeff Riesenberg scored nine points. Cole Hoskins added eight points, with Michael Fehr chipping in five points to the coffers. Thad Fogarty scored two points and Dexter Knobloch added a free throw for the Wolverines to close out the basketball season.
