A Celebration of Life for Deanna "Dee" Curry of Curlew will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday,?March 3, at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg. Father Clem Currans, Holy Family Parish, Emmetsburg, is the speaker.
Inurnment will be held at a later date in Bowman, ND. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Thursday, March 2, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Deanna Lynn Curry, daughter of Charles and Vivian (Kitzan)?Septon, was born April 27, 1957, in Bowman, ND. She graduated from Bowman High School.
Deanna became known to her family and friends as Dee. She loved riding horses and as a young girl had Appaloosas and Quarter horses. She enjoyed attending and participating in rodeos.
Following high school, Dee attended college in Dickinson, ND. She was united in marriage to William Schmidt. They moved to Alaska where William worked in the oil fields. Dee met and later married Linn Curry, who was stationed in Alaska. They continued to live there until 1986 when they moved to Emmetsburg.
Dee was presently making her home in Curlew with her fiance, Larry Kelley, and his daughter, Payge. Dee stayed involved in horse riding and breaking horses for several years. She was an avid pool player and played in a pool league. She enjoyed fishing with grandchildren and spending time with family. Dee also liked dirt track racing and NASCAR. She listened to the Daytona 500 this past Sunday.
In January, Dee became ill and on Jan. 24 she underwent surgery for a brain tumor in Sioux Falls, SD. Dee passed away Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017, at Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg at the age of 59. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Septon; and a daughter Dawn Marie Schmidt.
Survivors include her children, Billy (Darci) Curry of Emmetsburg, Sabrina (Richard)?Scott?of Emmetsburg, Talene Curry of Davenport, and Calin (Moriah)?Curry of Estherville; her fiance, Larry Kelley and his daughter, Payge of Curlew; grandchildren:?Ashley, Cole, Jaxon, Aly- via, Axton, Cale and Delainey; her mother, Vivian Mortenson; sisters, Lucille Getz of Phoenix, AZ, Nona Miller of Dickinson, ND, and Janet Schaaf of Bowman, ND; as well as many other relatives and friends.
