Here we are, the week of St. Patrick's Day. There is snow on the ground, that may or may not be there on Saturday when we have our grand parade.
Who, along with Emmetsburg, can pull together a March celebration no matter what the weather?
A personal-finance website called WalletHub sent out 2017's Best Cities for St. Patrick's Day Celebrations. I was excited to see an Iowa community, but saddened that it was not Emmetsburg.
To determine the best cities for celebrating Irish-American heritage, WalletHub's number crunchers compared 200 of the largest U.S. cities across 16 key metrics, ranging from "Irish pubs and restaurants per capita" to "lowest price for a three-star hotel on St. Patrick's Day" to "weather forecast."
Top 20 Cities for St. Patrick's Day
1 Buffalo, NY 11 Naperville, IL
2 Madison, WI 12 Rochester, NY

Granted, we probably cannot look at Emmetsburg as one of the largest U.S. cities, but we do have one of the best St. Patrick's Celebrations -- bar none.
Who has more fun than Irish and wanna-be Irish families and friends in Emmetsburg??The Gathering of the Clans at the Emmetsburg Fire Hall is a popular spot to hang out after the parade. St. Pat's now has a tent downtown that offers that same opportunity to gather together for a visit.
St. Patrick's Day Fun Facts from WalletHub:
$1.22 Million Market value of a leprechaun's pot of gold, which contains 1,000 gold coins weighing 1 ounce each.
13 Million Pints of Guinness that will be consumed worldwide on St. Patrick's Day.
$5.3 Billion Amount that will be spent collectively on St. Patrick's Day 2017 (or $38 per person celebrating).
Emmetsburg businesses always open their doors to locals and visitors as they flock to town to celebrate.
The Shamrock Pageants were set back a day, due to Sunday snow. It would be fun for Anne Rabbitts and her daughter to experience a little bit of snow when they arrive in Iowa today. With the "luck of the Irish," the snow will melt by the weekend, just in time for the O'Round the Loch Run and St. Patrick's Parade.
What are your plans for the week?? Teens can go to the Christian Rock Concert at the VFW on Wednesday night. St. Pat's is hosting an Open House at Headquarters on Thursday and the high school has a talent show that evening. On St. Patrick's Day, stop at St. Pat's Headquarters for the Chamber Coffee and get a team together for the bean bag tournament. Saturday afternoon the kids can enjoy a free movie at Riviera Theatre.
Food is a big part of any celebration. An Irish baked potato bar is at the Multipurpose Center on Thursday and another potato bar at the Methodist Church on Saturday. The Friday night fish fry is at the VFW, and Irish Stew is being served at the Multipurpose Center. St. Pat's Chili Cookoff is Saturday, too. Finish up with Rotary's Pancake Breakfast at the VFW Sunday morning.
There is lots to do in Emmetsburg this week. We'll see you around town!
